Tunnel

edit

Re: 1951: From the stories I heard while in attendance at LCI, the tunnel was added after the building was completed, when students had to cross a busy street between classes. The street has since been closed off between the two buildings. I don't know the specific dates for these events, so I am leaving this on the discuss page.  : RealGrouchy 02:20, 7 Feb 2004 (UTC)

- You may be right on that. I didn't attend the school, my main source was an article in the Ottawa Citizen which I'm afraid I don't have anymore. Cjrother 22:02, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)

School cheer

edit

Just stumbled upon this entry in the Wikipedia, wanted to add what I remember of the school cheer (hopefully someone can confirm this): "Phi Chi Psi, Kappa Lambda Pi, Ai Protos Protos Ai, O-C-I, Hullabaloo Hullabaloo Hullabaloo-bela, Lisgar Lisgar Rah Rah Rah!" I think this cheer dates back to the 30's at least... Thanks, Marlon Tang (1992-97), 11/11/05, 11:27pm Pacific.

Yes, I think that's how it goes --Nucleusboy 18:23, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Correct - OCI is reference to Ottawa Collegiate Institute, the name of the school back then — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.21.227.85 (talk) 01:32, 19 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Asians

edit

--Nucleusboy 18:29, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Ok, now I have been posting "90% of this school is Asian" twice, and both times it was erased. I only say this because it is true. Look at the math contest winners. And why do you think they went to Beijing in 2002? Because they had no trouble getting around and communicating. Anyway, both one of the first place winners for the Pascal Math contest and the first place winner for the Cayley math contest are my friends. I feel special.Reply

# : The Asian population, while high, isn't that high.
# : Why do you think we're going to Austria next year? Obviously most of the school is Austrian. --Nucleusboy 18:23, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Content Too Vain?

edit

There is obviously a great amount of vanity and self-vanity in this article. Many of the clubs and people that you have mentioned are non-notable and irrelevant to the article. I suggest that you remove and edit it. --Jamesino 18:21, 4 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree. There's no need to mention individual students who are currently enroled, unless they are notable for some reason. --Purplezart 18:32, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Definitely agreed, I removed them.

What about the individual teachers? They are lacking first names and are also non-notable, in my opinion. Jamesino 01:37, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. At most, I would expect to see the Principal, VPs, and heads of faculties. --Purplezart 08:35, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

    • I have to agree with this comment. If current teachers are listed, then previous teachers should be as well - and that would be too extensive. Unless there is something notable about a teacher (for instance, they won an award for teaching, etc) then I don't think a listing is relevent. --CdnStar 19:53, 16 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Should be bring this to the attention of an administrator? Jamesino 18:05, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why is the removal of the vain parts of the article (Lisgar Mathematics through Lisgar Clubs) constantly reverted? If one would actually be interested in this information, one could easily go to the school's website and find it, as each part is virtually taken verbatim from the site, with an introductory paragraph that either has no sources or is impossible to prove. Palindromeian 08:30, 20 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good point, Palindromeian. Perhaps the "vain" content in the article should be removed. It may be best, however, to first use the LCI Talk page to develop some sort of consensus on this, since there are likely strong feelings for and against removing this particular content. I think that, at the very least, new content could be drafted to replace the overblown parts in the article. Que-Can 08:45, 20 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
It seems to me that the (somewhat) important parts of the Mathematics section are covered in the History section of the article. Of the remaining sections, it appears that only Music is somewhat notable, and its beginning paragraph could simply be transferred over to History, if need be. However, it is clear that this article is too conceited, as other articles on Ottawa high schools, such as Glebe or Colonel By, are far shorter and more concise. Shella Rogers

edit

Does anyone know if she is a different person from Shelagh Rogers of the CBC?

Sorry if you are, Shella.

Yup same girl who was head girl at Lisgar !

Clubs

edit

Added Lisgar Tennis Club which is new for the year 2006-2007

Bomb threatening prank calls

edit

Which caused various lockdowns and an evacuation to City Hall for more than hour on Jan 17, 2006. Anyone care to add something?

A bit bloated?

edit

Can anyone help to maybe shorten this article? It's getting to the point where extracting meaningful information becomes difficult due to the high amount of fluff about teacher's names and unsourced claims about Lisgar's reputation. As well, winning math contests does not indicate a strong math program, it indicates a strong student body that is ambitious enough (or has no life, you pick) to do the work in order to win the contest.UnMatChedProWess 22:41, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article is horrific due to the fact that so many teacher's names are listed. I threw the correct template on top in the hope that someone will eliminate some of those names, maybe leaving the ones that are applicable. PhoenixTwo 23:29, 5 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Got rid of the clubs list. Let's hope it's not reversed. -M

  • I've deleted the lists of teachers as it was discussed they are irrelevent. If there are any specific teachers who deserve recognition, they could be added in independant of entire departments. I consolidated the different sections (music, math, canadian studies, etc) into one departmental listing as listed on the school website [1]. --CdnStar 14:20, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Alumni

edit

What constitutes an Alumni? For example Peter Jennings dropped out of Lisgar after Gr.10

another example, Matthew Perry who spent his high school years at both Lisgar and Ashbury College Isall 01:53, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Stub-ness

edit

How much longer does this page have to get to stop being a stub? --Nucleusboy 21:27, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Coordinates

edit

Somebody should enter Lisgar's coordinates Akhil 0950 (talk) 02:28, 23 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
