2013 UEFA Champions League Final edit

Arjen Robben's goal in the 89th minute at the 2013 UEFA Champions League Final is probably much more important than most of the goals listed here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:4C50:2CF:BD00:536:FB30:726:BAB5 (talk) 20:16, 14 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Recentism edit

Quite ridiculous recentism in this article: is anyone really trying to claim that the only last minute goals that will be relevant to readers in 10 years times have been scored in the last 15 years, and that more than half of them have included English clubs This list is unsustainable, and its inclusion criteria are entirely subjective. Kevin McE (talk) 13:00, 15 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Particularly the paragraphs covering the two United States goals in the 2010 World Cup. The US vs Costa Rica in qualifying and US vs Algeria in the group stage are hardly results of any great notability as last-minute goals, nor were they last-minute goals of a particularly unique nature. If we were to comprehensively list goals of that level of significance from every world cup, international continental cup, club continental cup, domestic club league and domestic club cup, world-wide, it'd be a very long list. Need to maintain an internationalist NPOV. Arae (talk) 17:46, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the entire section. There was no defined criteria for what makes a goal 'notable' (or indeed "last minute"), so inclusion was entirely up to the personal opinion of each contributing editor. Additionally the section was largely uncited and full of personal opinions, original research and, as you say, recentism. But above all, the list itself is unmaintainable listcruft. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 09:03, 24 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've removed a good few of the very worst examples again (including a quite ridiculous Fulham v Manchester City case), perhaps we can define some criteria to avoid future problems? It might just be easiest and the least problematic to limit the article to last minute goals which lead to trophies on that actual day?--Shakehandsman (talk) 05:41, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Why isn't the last minute Goal in the WC 2010 Finals listed? I'd say it's pretty significant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.84.46.162 (talk) 22:02, 28 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Because it was not a last-minute goal by the standards adopted in this article ("scored either in the final or penultimate minute of regulation time [...] or injury time"). It happened at the beginning of the 116th minute, which left almost four full minutes of regulation time plus injury time. There are many equally important goals that have been scored at an equivalent point in the match and not included here for the same reason (for example, in the Ajax vs. Milan 1995 Champions League final, Kluivert's winning goal happened in the 85th minute; in the West Germany vs. Argentina 1990 World Cup final, Brehme's winning goal also happened in the 85th minute). If we accept these goals as a last-minute goals, then we also have to accept an unreasonable extension to the meaning "last minute". Perhaps a better term for goals like these is "a goal late in the game". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Koldito (talkcontribs) 11:40, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Nacer Chadli's Last Minute winning goal against Japan in the 2018 WC Round of 16 is not listed here. It was a big moment in the tournament.

Unsustainable? edit

As was mentioned in the previous discussion, the list of goals on this article seems to be becoming unsustainable, with any goal scored at the end of a game included, regardless of notability. I believe the article also uses the wording The term "last-minute goal" is used in sport, primarily association football... yet no examples are given (unless I'm mistaken, it's also a difficult article to look through for examples) of last minute goals in other sports than football? I think there needs to be more stringent notability guidelines for this article drawn up, as well as, if possible, some non-football examples. - 97rob (talk) 11:36, 31 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and the references used are very minimal, I think any new examples should be removed if they don't include a reference, and we should try to work through the current examples for references. - 97rob (talk) 11:38, 31 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Weghorst’s equalizer in the world cup edit

There were 2 minutes left in the game (90+11 vs 90+13) so this should count Amogus cup 1234 (talk) 21:03, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

List edit

Hi, @ItsKesha: im disappointed you reverted my page move as it is much more of a list than a definition with only a few sentences for the obvious definition. As for what goals are notable that would be in games that are notable by having their own wikipedia articles or having substantial reliable sources coverage, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 22:06, 10 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

How many games with their own Wikipedia article have a last-minute goal scored in them? What would you define as "substantial reliable sources coverage"? All my warmest wishes, ItsKesha (talk) 20:58, 11 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
