Freeway west end

In all the technical documents that I've seen, the "Lakeland Freeway" designation extends west along I-90 and SR-2 to the Lake Shore Boulevard/SR-283 connection (Exit 179) just west of W. 140th St. (See for example the original freeway/expressway plan.) Traffic reports often refer to that section as the Shoreway, but those aren't official. Mapsax (talk) 20:11, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Lost Nation Road

This edit (March 6, 2008) states "Exit at Lost Nation Rd was not present. It is not a state route, county road number could not be found". Lost Nation Road is entirely within the city of Willoughby, making it a city street, and therefore would not have a county road number. Update: Google Maps no longer shows county numbers in Lake County, though Live Search Maps still does. However, I did find a document by the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (local MPO) showing county numbers for all roads, even those within cities: Pavement Sidewalk, and Curb Condition. Lost Nation is listed as CR-504. Regardless, since this information is very obscure, I don't think that it warrants inclusion on the table. Mapsax (talk) 21:13, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Cleveland Memorial Shoreway & Lakeland Freeway

It seems pretty clear that the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway western terminus is at Lake Avenue (41.484785°N 81.746358°W / 41.484785; -81.746358) and the Lakeland Freeway eastern terminus is where it merges with Rt 20 at the Painesville Township line. (41.758735°N 81.192057°W / 41.758735; -81.192057) The mystery for me is where one ends and the other begins. According to Google Maps, that transition is somewhere around E 140th street. I may have found an answer here. While originally constructed to E 55th, the (Cleveland) Memorial Shoreway was "extended to BRATENAHL at E. 140th". So while in the past these roads had fits, starts and gaps, I think it's safe to say the current dividing point is around E 140th. Sorry to jump in late. The west end of the Lakeland Freeway is at I-90 Exit 179, where 283 connects to Lakeshore Blvd west of W. 140th St. If you can access the 1953 USGS 1:24000 topo for East Cleveland here, you'll see that the Shoreway ended at Lakeshore, and today's Exit 179 onramp follows its easternmost old alignment (the offramp was "buckled" to accommodate for the overpass over today's I-90). Since these ramps are considered as such today rather than part of a mainline of any highway it can be assumed (hopefully) that the east end of the Shoreway is now at the same point as the west end of the Lakeland Freeway. I just happened to notice that the "LAKELAND" in the "LAKELAND FREEWAY" label on the 1963 topo is west of the Exit 179 ramps. That obviously was an error in placement, but it kind of disrupts the purpose of the illustration, unfortunately...hopefully the context will clarify any potential confusion. I noticed that too. And it might not be an "error". Some at the time may have had the notion of renaming the entire thing "Lakeland Freeway" but it never stuck. Who knows. – JBarta (talk) 19:43, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

I dunno, I still think it's people not knowing just where one ends and the other begins. For what it's worth, the ODOT straight-line diagrams, which in my experience are horrible depicting street/highway names, show the Lakeland Freeway going all the way to Dead Man's Curve. On the other hand, the Location Map from this report (one of 17 wonderfully detailed reports available here) makes a fairly clear distinction, not any more ambiguous than most other sources. I still think what you did is the best solution. A correction, though: The caption should read "eastern terminus of the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway", not "western terminus". Easy mistake with all the complications. Mapsax (talk) 20:22, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
