Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on January 24, 2008.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ...that construction of Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area was the last project completed by the US Civilian Conservation Corps in the state of Georgia?

This article needs a photo; can you help? edit

Does anyone have a photo of the lake for the article? Please add one if you can. Thanks, Majoreditor (talk) 02:47, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Got one with permission from NFS. Majoreditor (talk) 02:33, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Upgrading to B class edit

The article now meets the criteria for "B" class, so I'm upgrading it. Although it is relatively short, it is fairly comprehensive. With some additional work this can get to GA-class. Feel free to picth in. It could still use:

  • Additional images
  • More material on flora & fauna in and around the lake

Other thoughts? Majoreditor (talk) 01:30, 25 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've added in another image and additional details on fish and wildlife. After scouring Emory's research library I was able to add additional details on the lake's history. Majoreditor (talk) 03:39, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

GA Review edit

With respect to the Good article criteria, the article complies with the manual of style, and the prose is reasonably good and informative. I also do not see any major WP:NPOV or stability issues, and the images have appropriate copyright tags. There are only two issues as I see it:

  • minor: There really needs to be a citation on the fact that the Lake Winfield Scott Trail is an 'easy' trail and parts are wheelchair accessible. Whenever trails like this are rated as 'easy', 'moderate', or 'hard', this should be backed up by some sort of official analysis or it could be construed as someone's point of view.
    •   Done I have added in-line citations to a reliable hiking guide for the trail ratings.
  • As a wildlife/nature site, I think the article needs a 'wildlife' section, covering the various flora and fauna in the area. Some of this is covered in a limited manner from a recreational perspective (fishing), but I think a more biological, scientific perspective needs to be covered.
    •   Done Created a new section on wildlife.

Other than these two issues, I think the article meets the GA criteria, and can be promoted once they are addressed. I'll put this article on hold at WP:GAN until February 6, 2008, so these issues can be solved. Cheers! Dr. Cash (talk) 21:27, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the comments, Dr. Cash. I will add citations on trail ratings. To develop a proper wildlife section could take up to one week; I'll start tracking down material. Majoreditor (talk) 21:40, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've made the requested enhancements. How does the article look now? Are there any other issues to address? Majoreditor (talk) 14:36, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

The article is in good shape now. It can be promoted. Cheers! Dr. Cash (talk) 16:11, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Future improvements to the article edit

The article would benefit from adding sections on hydrology and construction of the lake/recreation area. Please feel free to add any details you can. Majoreditor (talk) 14:53, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Jarrad Gap Trail edit

It's Jarrard Gap Trail-not Jarrad Gap Trail. Please correct.
