jargon
edit"Bulk residence times " - what does this mean? Canuckle 23:51, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hydro9logical mumbo-jumbo. It refers to the length of time a given volume of water stays in a lake; or, hmmm does it have to do with water that doesn't leave the lake? - as in the case of a lot of Lake Superior's and others. Plain English would sure be a lot better huh?Skookum1 (talk) 06:04, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Tobiano Resort spam removal
editAny experienced editor knows why I took a big chunk of non-lake related material out of here, otehr than because it wasn't directly related to the lake; it was outright commercial spam. What's so crass about this kind of stuff (as on Ten Mile Point, British Columbia, Bear Mountain (resort), Great Wolf Lodge and others that Iv'e run across, is that the resorts have p.r. advertising budgets and ahve the money to pay for advertising; nay, to donate to wikipedia even. And if it's p.r. firms they're hiring, the bloody idiots don't even take the time to read the content guidelines and instead think that they can scribble whatever "hey we've got a super-duper golf course with unique views and creative restaurants and rooms overlooking the bar/greens/lake adn the fancy architecture etc" baffle-garble and expect it to stand unchallenged. They can pay for the same thing they're making for free here. In fact, it's likely that the person makeing those contributions is doing so as part of their paychque. WP:COI is not something such people care about, or have reason to respect; I'll save my highly POV views on p.r. agencies and their willingness to sell out and even corrupt the public and public institutions on behalf of their clients - particularly here in BC - but suffice to say they have the money and expense to build their own friggin' websites, and should have the class (and p.r. sense) not to make presumptive and way tooo braggish and often even childishly-written articles (nad talkpage rants taht make my worst excesses of temper look positively boddhisattva-like). Apparently go to school to get an education to qualify you to write crap like taht only serves to prove to me how irrelevant a university education has become....when the result is sa complete lack of either knowledge or manners, to say not6hing of literacy...."unique", "world-class" etc are tags used by half-wits who need thesauri to think with and seem to all come from the same "unique" school of writing.Skookum1 (talk) 06:04, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
- Just for teh record "Tobiano" is not listed in the provincial gazette; if there'd been so much as a placename around Kamloops Lake that might warrant an article.....Skookum1 (talk) 06:08, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Skookum1, although a community is not currently in the provincial gazette ( or any other publication for that matter) does not mean that it does not exist. FYI directional highway signs for Tobiano can be found on the Trans Canada and the Coquihalla highway on the approaches to Kamloops and at Cache Creek. Further, Fredrick and Tobiano are situated directly on Kamloops Lake as are Savona and Kamloops in contrast to the community of Cherry Creek which is situated along Cherry Creek, not directly on Kamloops Lake. Copper Creek, once a community along Kamloops Lake, is now largely abandoned, although it appears as a placename on many maps. Funny enough, the map associated with Kamloops Lake does not at all reflect the true dimensions of Kamloops Lake which can be better viewed on Google Earth. I am not computer savy enough to update the image but you seem to have a keen interest in this matter and your bio indicates you have a background in cartography. Perhaps you could update the map. I think your demotion of Fredrick and Tobiano to the bottom of the article should be reversed but I'll leave that to your good judgement. ˜˜˜˜ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Boozoo226 (talk • contribs) 19:02, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Animated Gif
editDoes anyone else feel that this animated gif image is a little out of place here? I find it a little distracting and not consistent with the rest of Wikipedia; could just be me though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.7.89.210 (talk) 12:17, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
