Meaning of Kagnew edit

Actually Kagnew (ቃኘው) literally means "Straighten it up!", that is, "Bring it to order!" rather than "Conqueror"... Til Eulenspiegel (talk) 02:15, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're right on the ball tonight. I must be misreading the source, or the source is confused (he also implies in an unclear way that all the Kagnew members were "6 feet tall", without being clear whether that's rumor or actual policy). Cheers, DBaba (talk) 02:24, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Kagnew Station established in "Northern Ethiopia" ? edit

The article states, "When the US established a military base in Northern Ethiopia they named it Kagnew Station in honor of the officers and men of the elite Imperial Bodyguards that had earned their admiration." However, if Kagnew Station was established in 1943 ([1]), the country was Eritrea, not Ethiopia. According to [2], "The British captured Eritrea [from Italy] in 1941 and later administered it as a UN Trust Territory until it became federated with Ethiopia on Sept. 15, 1952. Eritrea was made an Ethiopian province on Nov. 14, 1962."
