Table Layout edit

I propose to modify the table layout to list the Romanji and Kanji titles in separate columns to give them more prominence - see sample below.

If anyone has strong objections or comments, please let me know.

No.TitleRomanji TitleKanji TitleOriginal air date
1"Reborn"Obieru Shikabane脅える屍April 8, 2016
The Kotetsujo armored steam train is preparing to pass through an abandoned railway station that has been overrun by Kabane....etc.
2"Full Disclosure"Akenu Yoru明けぬ夜April 22, 2016
Ikoma awakes, realizing that he has successfully stopped the Kabane virus from infecting him.....etc.
Why use a different layout from every other article on an anime series? Also, these extra columns create too much clutter, especially when adding episode screenwriters and directors. {{Japanese episode list}} produces a clean layout and allows editors to add additional information for episode screenwriters and directors. It also already has fields specifically for Kanji and Romaji titles, which reduces confusion when other users later edit the list. Also, why use a non-default color. We are not making distinctions between difference seasons, in fact, the series is barely into its first season. —Farix (t | c) 12:49, 17 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Farix. To me, as a reader, it seems confusing to have the three titles so far apart. I also agree that it would cause problems when adding extra information, such as directors or English airdates. (Note: I was asked to comment here by Ricbolzan.) Thanks both for the feedback, and link to the "Japanese episode list", didn't know it existed - there are so many Help pages and some are not easy to find. As a person with a database background I find all of the titles inserted into one Title cell unhelpful and poor information management practice. However I take your points. Regarding header colour, it would be useful to have a standard colour range for the seasons order as it seems that anything goes - do you know of any guides or standards? Ricbolzan (talk) 22:00, 17 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Regarding colour headers, an example is that I've written over 80 original episode summaries for List_of_The_Legend_of_Qin_episodes, and created custom colour headers for each season (5) because I couldn't find any guide for the colours, or the order in which they should be used.Ricbolzan (talk) 22:13, 17 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I think it would be perfectly acceptable to add some color to the table. In fact, it would probably be better - I really dislike the default color. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 23:39, 17 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Well I've added colour, but deferred to you comments re header columns. Ricbolzan (talk) 02:58, 18 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Unless you are making distinctions between difference series/seasons, the default color should remain. Especially since the list is still in them main article as the color is used in the infobox and the navboxes at the bottom. —Farix (t | c) 11:20, 18 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'm not going to argue over a small issue like this if you feel so strongly about it. The primary issues are content quality, accuracy and readability. Ricbolzan (talk) 21:32, 18 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Episode Edits edit

There is a bit of an issue here with the episode edits.

  • No-one can provide a definitive summary, so improvements are always welcome.
  • Episode editing should improve the original (accuracy, clarity, consistency, grammar, spelling, references, etc) not just play with the words without improving the content.

Some of the last edits have introduced grammatical errors, and errors of fact, in Episode 4 for example:

  • It was 1 of the 6 Chiefs plus 2 other soldiers/passengers that tried to disconnect the carriage, not 3 Chiefs - the chiefs wear purple scarves.
  • Given that 1 Chief was killed while outside, that would leave 5, not 6 at the end.
  • Ayame did not decide to use their blood to feed the Kabaneri, she offered hers first and others followed voluntarily - a huge difference.

I'll correct these and other errors. This is a new and very high quality series, so can we please make an effort to provide the best content we can. Ozflashman (talk) 06:22, 6 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

NOTE: Although "rokkon shōjō" literally means "Purification of the Six Roots of Perception", in common usage it is shouted at the completion of a huge effort such as climbing to the summit of a mountain, and is misleading to be written here.[1] Ozflashman (talk) 06:51, 6 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi. While I agree with most of your work, WP:TVPLOT states that the short summaries in episode list templates, as is the case with this article, are to be between 100-200 words only and those may need to be trimmed accordingly per the guidelines. I think this is a bit too much detail. As a side note, I actually help improve articles and cleanup prose wherever it is necessary, including this article. I'm planning to help trim the summaries down to the 100-200 word count per WP:TVPLOT. Also, I think we may need to add a reception section (I realized there is no reception section for this article) and source episodes in general for characters. Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 10:10, 6 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

I don't disagree with shorter summaries, although around 200 words is more appropriate for complex episodes as they are broadcast that have a lot going on, especially where there is scene-setting that may be relevant in later episodes. I'm happy to cut it down myself, but my concern is that it will be expanded again with excessive detail. Ozflashman (talk) 21:42, 6 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Indeed, excessive detail is what we are trying to avoid in summarizing episodes and films, since Wikipedia is not a collection of plot summaries. For example, WP:FILMPLOT states that plot summaries in films are to be between 400-700 words. As for the article itself, the ultimate goal here is to get this article up to B-Class status so we can eventually take it up to GA when the series is completed. Query regarding some of the details in the summaries edit

Having just watched the (admittedly subtitled) first season this week, I was wondering where some of the details in the episode summaries came from. Namely:

  • Episode 3: "a green stone tied to his palm which seems to have some effect on the Kabane": As far as I recall, all that's said about the stone is that it's a common river stone that Ikoma found two of, and gave one to his sister. It was a memento of what happened. Wondering where it mentioned anything about any effect on Kabane.
  • Episode 5: "Mumei attacks the nest of Kabane single-handed, estimating she has 90 seconds of energy left": From what I can tell from watching the episodes all one right after another, Mumei's "estimates" are actually about how long it will take her to deal with the Kabane. (She notes that she went over her estimate in Episode 2 when clearing a route for the Aragane survivors.) Also, she doesn't know how much energy she has left until she starts to feel tired. Where was this information found?
  • Episode 10: "is forced to take captive vaccine": Where did the term "captive vaccine" come from? As far as I could tell (again, only from the subtitling), it was a sedative with hypnotic properties. Biba does mention a "medicine" for Kabaneri in this episode, but it's clear that what he injects Mumei with is not it. (He threatens her that he won't give her any more of the medicine - which is implied to keep a Kabaneri from becoming a Kabane - if she refuses to do what he says.)

I wrote the original summaries some time ago (early 2016) so cannot comment on your observations without reviewing the episodes - "captive vaccine" in Episode 10 looks like a typo. Happy for you to edit the text to improve the accuracy.
