First complete English fencing treatise? edit

This line is misleading. The explanation in the "Fencing Manual" section is argumentative and unsourced. If this problem isn't addressed, I'll have to take care of it... but I'm not sure how best to do that except to delete the offending sections. Sebatinsky (talk) 02:09, 5 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bias edit

The "misogynist" section of this article is about the least neutral Wikipedia entry I've ever seen. 173.70.36.208 (talk) 23:31, 25 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Swetnam probably thought that he was merely upholding eternal verities under threat, but a number of other people -- both at the time and afterwards -- thought that he displayed a level of misogyny bordering on the pathological. In those days, you could claim that males were the superior sex, say that women should defer to their husbands, and should be silent in church and not overly talkative elsewhere, and pull up a few Bible verses and well-worn quotes from Aristotle and the church fathers on the subject, and you would not be considered particularly controversial. Therefore the fact that Swetnam was controversial is significant... AnonMoos (talk) 08:56, 26 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
