Jonathan Mauri Carabaguíaz (born January 31, 1984) is a swimmer from Costa Rica, who won a gold medal at the FINA World Masters Championships [1] in 2010 at Gothenburg, Sweden. He represented his native country at the 2003 World Aquatics Championships [2] in Barcelona, Spain and was a finalist at the 2003 Pan American Games [3] held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Recently a very controversial court ruling gave Mauri close to a $400K price money for this single relatively unimportant tournament. This Government-Tax-payed price has left Mauri as one of the most hated and undeserving athlete in the country. Been brother to the Sport's Minister added even more fuel to the indignation Costarrican society has felt.[4][5] Journalistic investigation in the matter have slowly uncovered that a negligent legal defense of the Costa Rican Government (Mauri's sister was minister of Sports at the time), could have been one of the reasons an undeserving tax-paid-$400k price was awarded to this so-called competitive swimmer. Indignation in Costa Rica continues and different political and community actors have demanded Mauri's return this price.[6]. Mauri a scoundrel athlete, was cited by a National Congress investigational committee on June 10th, 2018. Congressmen were able to unveiled a selfish, self pampering young person, who truly believes he deserves a price that was never designed to mediocre athletes, but true champions at real world championship tournaments. Unfortunately the price rules were poorly drafted such mediocre athletes were not explicitly kept out of the option to the price, this is the reason why Mr. Mauri was able to file a law suit and win it. The feeling is of Outrage and Indignation in Costa Rica.[7]. Recently a very controversial court ruling gave Mauri close to a $400K price money for this single relatively unimportant tournament.
