Professor Zaller's personality and appearance are uncannily Mr. Burns-like, the character from the Simpson's television show.

Zaller is also well known, especially amongst the undergraduate community at UCLA, for the tangental wisdom he intersperses with lectures. Known as "Zallerisms", these bits of philosophical enlightenment, derived from Zaller's own unique world view, include theoretical frameworks for addressing basic or menial scholarly tasks. Zaller is known to challenge his students with complex questions that, despite their apparent incoherence, are in all actuality concise, formulaic, and manageable. A man of profound humor, Zaller is often capable of prompting spontaneous bursts of laughter. Perhaps this quality is derived from his dearest life goal of one day becoming a professional comedian.
He is also referred to affectionately as "JFK Zaller" by his undergraduate students.

This seems mostly affectionate but not very encyclopedic. Martijn Faassen (talk) 14:09, 7 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
