FACT OR THEORY?

edit

Those members of the Wiki community editing the John Twelve Hawks entry should take a look at the "history" page of previous edits. For several years, this entry has showed a continual tension between known facts and speculative theories regarding this author. Wiki edits should distinguish between these two categories and I feel that this entry currently does a good job of making the distinction. At some point, this entry may be flagged for continual monitoring by the Wiki community. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AshlandOR1 (talkcontribs) 15:55, 10 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

john twelve hawks

sorry, as a former public school pupil, i´m not perfect in english language and writing. Just reading the book traveller, autor is "john twelve hawks", an artists name or a feeled name, or the genuine? sound like an indian name. I´ve a lot of questions to the autor and i would very enjoyed to get a contact to john twelve hawks. There are so many open theories and cognitions in a new mix, only an outstanding and critical mind seems able to find theese kind of correlations between history and future, means science fictions. For example: he writes in a sentence: our brain is the location of god. Prentice mulford, 130 years ago wrote the same: the god in us... There are so many questions of personally kind, if it´s able, i would like to get a contact to the autor. Perhaps anyone has the possibillity to bring us in contact. Best regards from germany, "ferraristo2" e-mail: k@sseler.de

Best place to keep your eye on is this discussion board [1] , although I have a feeling they are going to be awfully upset if they find out it really is JTH's first novel.--Mirjay 22:08, 6 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

What does it matter if the book is based of facts? Or if there were publicity stunts? If any book gives us pause and inspires us to think about the world we live in, then it has been a catalyst is change for the better. There are some disturbing facts that are included in this book: There are surveilance systems, both internet and otherwise being used to observe private citizens all over the world. There are coroporations already requiring "micro chips", and it is proposed that in the Us, military personnel be required to have "micro chips". The government is using "scare tactics and fear" to intimidae the public into giving up their freedom and privacy for security". This does not even include the economic battle that private citizens are losing to Big Corporations in which the working people are seeing their standard of living lowered day by day to support the big profits of Corporate Executives. Eventually we will be nothing more than indentured slaves. This book gives us hope, give us the chance to question our future.

Publicity stunt?

edit

According to the New York Times, Doubleday spent about a million dollars to market the trilogy of which The Traveler is the first book. (NYT Aug. 12, 2006, p. A20).

There should be some discussion of the Harlequins. "Harlequins" are a type of Fallen Angel character in an old LARP (Live-Action Roleplaying Game), called "Shades of Divinity." Any influence in the term here from that

I think the whole thing has been spun by some clever publishing company and that their is little doubt that JTH is in fact a well known author.

Yeah. I keep thinking that someone, someday, is going to discover that Twelve Hawks's real name is "Grisham" or "Meltzer". . . . --Michael K. Smith 16:03, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

He's probably a Pseudonym of one of the authors on doubleday, that way it would have been easier to get it published--Nk70 18:10, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

JTH tells a bit about his childhood

edit

On John Twelve Hawks' site at [2] , if you click "Realm Six" in the top right corner, there is then a blackboard that you can click (his message board). His most recent post (as of this edit) is "The Mirror", dated January 23, 2008, and it details some of his childhood. If anyone wants to expand the article, this might be the place to look. 134.173.51.133 (talk) 18:58, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Terrible references

edit

Postings on newsgroups or forums, and comments on minor blogs, do not constitute reliable references. This is an encyclopedia. If you cannot find a verifiable reference for these fantasies, then they don't belong here. —johndburger 03:44, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Difficult subject

edit

How do you write or edit an article completely within Wikipedia guidelines on a figure like John Twelve Hawks? It doesn't seem possible to do without speculation or original research. He definitely merits an article, but there's not much you can say beyond the pseudonymous author of the series and what little is available from interviews. --Elmyr (talk) 19:42, 3 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

-The author does not wish further information regarding himself/herself to be revealed at this time. Without a certain degree of control, the information highway may give rise to deleterious consequences that could potentially outweigh its benefits. Thank you. This is not the author. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.80.184.152 (talk) 09:09, 19 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Nationality

edit

I note that John Twelve Hawks has been put into the "American science fiction writers" Category. Does anybody know his nationality? If not we should change this to something more generic Stormcloud (talk) 12:34, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Done. Moved to Category:Science fiction writers of unspecified nationality. HairyWombat (talk) 20:19, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

WE ARE EDITING AN ENCYCLOPEDIA

edit

Once again, this entry has suffered from from various people attempting to increase traffic to their personal blogs.

Note an important distinction: The theories mentioned in this entry are labeled "theories." They are simply idle speculations without real basis in reality. The blog entries removed are asserting themselves as "facts."

I have read the entry on the aptly named "Random Lunatic News." To my knowledge, Steve Huff has never done what any cub reporter would before he finished an article: he has never contacted either Hawks and/or Kamen. This is EASY to do. Both have public websites. (Hawks at www.johntwelvehawks.com and Kamen at www.kamenwines.com).

If Huff was working at a newspaper (as I used to do), this is the first question his editor would ask: i.e. "did you attempt to contact the two individuals involved?"

We are editing an encyclopedia! This is not a venue for increasing blog traffic for a self-confessed "random lunatic."

ADDENDUM

edit

Re: Machiavelli's previous comment. I apologize for stating this person was "Steve Huff." I have no factual basis for this assertion. This was a spontaneous comment not up to the Wikipedia standard.

I helped edit (under another name) the entry on Armenian genocide. It amazes me that I'm seeing the same behavior here.

Machiavelli asserts that this theory is "true." True on what basis? Mr. Huff is currently counting the amount of hawks in an article called the “Effects of Expanding Viticulture on the Home Range and Habitat Use of Nesting Swainson’s Hawks in the Central Valley.” (note: Kamen did not write this article nor does he have any connection to this article). We have entered into the "grassy knoll" area of blogger wackiness.

Machiavelli has proposed that all theories be removed from this entry. I am in favor of this. But I'm willing to hold off on this move for a week or so -- until other we hear from other members of the Wiki community. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.66.251.11 (talk) 14:59, 24 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Quotes

edit

I have moved this section from the article. I could not find the quotes in any of the three books by John Twelve Hawks, none of which extend to anything like 600 pages. If somebody knows where these quotes come from then we can reference them and put them back. (They were added by the anonymous accounts User:88.72.31.98, User:88.72.5.45, User:88.72.27.219 on November 5, 6, 8, 2007.) HairyWombat (talk) 18:42, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

It has him listed as an American author, but do we really know if he's an American? Simple Pimple CC (talk) 18:42, 4 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
