Talk:John Eckland

Latest comment: 6 years ago by InternetArchiveBot in topic External links modified

This individual has earned a place in Wikipedia due to his contributions to the area of alternative and renewable energy. As an early and outspoken critic of US Oil policy as well as early pioneer in renewable energy, primarily wind energy, John Eckland has played an important role in the now burgeoning alternative energy field. His efforts have literally transformed the landscape. Images of his windfarm (first in the country) exist in modern and popular culture and have helped to define California as front runner and early participant in social progress. The windfarm of 1981 had the same impact of the first prius on all that saw it - it stimulated thought and discussion on conservation of oil reserves, and viable/renewable energy sources. John Eckland's brainchild, Fayette Manufacturing, brought to life wind energy as a viable source to rival both coal and nuclear power with none of the devastating side effects of either of these energy sources.

While ultimately, John Eckland's dream failed to revolutionize the American lifestyle, he brought discourse and discussion to a generation, and enabled efforts that continue today. Please see associated citations included on main page for more discussion of relevance.
