This article is unsourced and inaccurate. JCS senior was summoned from Germany to be Handel's first copyist in London in 1716. He eventually fell out of favour with Handel and his son, the subject of this article, became Handel's copyist, musical assistant and amanuensis in his later years when blindness prevented Handel from conducting or writing. Handel left his collection of instruments to the Smith family, although rewritings of his will make it unclear whether he intended them to go to the father or the son. There is a German composer de:Johann Christoph Schmidt described on the German wikipedia, so the use of German names should be clarified. The statement about Handel possibly teaching JCS is absurd, since they worked extremely closely together. There are plenty of scholarly articles and books available on this topic, for example the biography of Maria Van Til. Mathsci (talk) 09:42, 1 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
