In response to speedy deletion suggestion:

Joel Shapiro is a leading expert in his field, and a highly regarded international researcher. He has written one of the seminal books in the area of composition operators (an internationally active and well studied area of Mathematical analysis) , and discovered many of their properties himself. The original short article was written as a place holder while I (and hopefully others) fill in additional information.

I'm not an expert in Wikipedia's criteria for importance, but I know that there are other mathematicians who have made less significant contributions to similar areas whose pages are not contested.
