POV

Some anon, User:64.107.156.234 listed this on AfD, but it wasn't really a candidate. I tagged it with the requested POV tag. He/She said this reads like an advertisment. --Lord Voldemort (Dark Mark) 19:43, 8 September 2005 (UTC)

I don't see any mis-statements on the page currently. The changes that have been made recently seem appropriate. Any user is welcome to add additional factual information about Jewel. For instance I'm sure something could be added about their relationship with the union, or with city neighborhoods (i.e. their pullout from urban neighborhoods in the 1960's) etc. if someone has that information. --John Wasinski John Wasinski 12:36, 1 November 2005 (CST)

I think this is pretty much NPOV at this point. (Compared to the 8 September 2005 edits when the POV flag was added.) I think the POV flag could be removed. If there are no objections by Sunday 21 May 2006, I will remove the flag. VikÞor [[User talk:Vik-Thor|Talk]] 03:28, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

home delivery

When I was just a toddler in western New York State circa 1970, a regular visitor to our home was an old bald man I knew only as "the Jewel Tea Man." I liked him and looked forward to him coming on his rounds - at one point he gave me a set of 8"x10" Apollo 11 photos. As far as I know, Jewel was not a supermarket presence in that area, and it certainly isn't now. I've only ever known the name Jewel Tea in the context of my childhood memories... I came here expecting to read about some long-gone home delivery business along the lines of Schwann's, only geared to coffees and teas, etc... Am I way off base here? Misremembering? Anyone have any info on this? Jafafa Hots 13:34, 17 January 2006 (UTC)

Not Albertsons anymore

Jewel-Osco isn't owned by Albertsons anymore. If anyone has information regarding the current owner, I think that should be included. Mitch 14:55, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Jewel's official website still indicates it is a part of Albertsons. "Albertsons was sold in January to a corporate group that included the CVS pharmacy chain and a Milwaukee-based grocery chain called SuperValu, Inc." and "Shortly after the purchase of Albertsons, SuperValu sold off its CUB Food stores, preventing the possibility of self-competition with Jewel-Osco stores that often are located nearby." The Jewel/Osco and Jewel solo stores will go to SuperValu, while the Osco Freestanding stores will go to CVS when the sale is approved by the shareholders. This has not yet occured. The shareholder meeting to approve the sale is currently scheduled for 30 May 2006. The location of the special shareholder meeting is in New York City, according to the Joint Prospectus found on the Supervalu website. The Prospectus does not seem to be available on the Albertsons website. VikÞor [[User talk:Vik-Thor|Talk]] 03:08, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

  • The page reflects this somewhat but is not as accurte as your statement. Why don't you update it?

SuperValu

It remains to be seen if they will follow with the "Crazy about food" slogan in other Albertson's stores, less likely but I will admit possible.Kidsheaven 22:01, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

What is known so far is they closed all Chicago Cub foods, and sold off some downstate Illinois stores Jewel, will become third party Cub Food stores. It is too soon to know how much change, Dominick's is shrinking, and Roundy's proposed expansion in Chicago and others, Super Target, Wal-mart, Meijer, Woodman's, Food 4 Less (Kroger's return), Walgreens, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's all trying to take share from Jewel.Kidsheaven 22:01, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

Public info known from What is known so far in Chicago public info Tribune, Sun-Times, WBBM http://www.supervalu.com/sv-webapp/retail/banners/jewel.jsp

On television commercials they started using the slogan "Fresh to Your Family" Kidsheaven 17:04, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Jewel-Osco

Shouldn't this page be renamed from Jewel to Jewel-Osco?

The company's official name is Jewel-Osco, website is www.jewelosco.com and press releases give company name as Jewel-Osco. I believe this article is stuck in a time warp with the article name of the old company name and much of the description is outdated. I can help update story, but what do others think about the title?? Merci Mykjoseph (talk) 21:38, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

I also agree. The chain has been refered to this name for quite a time now, the article name should be updated. For example, the Midwest division was "Jewel Food Stores", whereas the Florida and Southwest divisons were "Jewel-Osco". In the 90s, American Stoes wanted to create a nationwide banner known as "Jewel-Osco". So i support the editor above, the name should be updated. This article is short and outdated. Viller the Great (talk) 06:38, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

3rd vote. The article refers to the company mostly as Jewel-Osco. Most, if not all, of the stores left are combos, rather than solo Jewel stores. If there are no objections within a week or so, I will start the move procedure. --VikÞor | Talk 21:10, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

Jewel (supermarket)Jewel-Osco – Jewel-Osco is now the common usage name for this division of Supervalu. There are many more combo (Jewel-Ocso) stores than standalone Jewel stores (if there are any freestanding ones left.) There is a bit of discussion immediately above regarding a move. VikÞor | Talk 00:55, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Slight Oppose - Jewel is the 'grocery store', Osco is the 'drug store', yes most Jewel's are Jewel-Osco combo stores, however there are standalone Jewel stores and many stand alone Osco stores (owned by CVS!), Osco is also the Pharmacy brand for other grocery chains. --Education does not equal common sense. 我不在乎 06:36, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Osco Drug has its own article. Until the articles are merged the renaming is not appropriate, IMO.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 15:36, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Oppose - per Tony's reasoning. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 20:23, 6 August 2012 (UTC)
