"Lives" exhibition edit
Surprised to see that two additions that I added to the Jeffrey Deitch page were deleted. These additions alluded to Deitch's first curatorial effort, which in future years he would say "laid the foundation for" everything he has done since. The reference to the "Lives" exhibition in the Wikipedia article was footnoted with an article on 98bowery.com, which discussed the history and context of the "Lives" exhibition. In addition, there was a link to Deitch's essay in the exceedingly rare Xeroxed catalog distributed at the time of the exhibition. While this, too, is posted at 98bowery.com, it seems like the sort of important primary information that readers of this Wikipedia entry would want. I am attaching here a 2010 interview with Deitch, in which he clearly states the importance of the "Lives" exhibition in terms of his career and development as a curator.
[JEFFREY DEITCH — ] So Julian [Pretto] offered me a floor to do an exhibition and that’s where I did my first show. Essentially, it laid the foundation for what I’ve been doing ever since. PARINAZ MOGADASSI — What was the show called? JEFFREY DEITCH — “Lives.” It centered on artists who used life as an art medium.[1]
