I was watching TCM (Turner Classc Movies) and they did a tribute to those "WE REMEMBER." They listed Jean Stapleton. When did she die?

The family obituary

The text posted here has been described as the family's official obituary. Apparently Wikipedia was incorrect to state that Stapleton attended Hunter College (cited to People) and that she had grandchildren (reported in The New York Times obit). Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:09, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

Good catch. I've removed the reference to Hunter College. I don't think we can use lack of mention of grand children as evidence of no grandchildren, so I didn't delve further into that subject. Rklawton (talk) 14:29, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Find a Grave

I removed the link to find a grave. Jean doesn't have a grave, and the find a grave link provides no new information... unless, of course, we're now providing links to show that there's nothing there just in case anyone is curious. Rklawton (talk) 14:23, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

Untitled

Didn't she have some weird sitcom called "Bagdad Cafe" or something with Whoopi Goldberg???

  • Stapleton attempted a return to sitcoms co-starring with Whoopi Goldberg in the short-lived "Bagdad Cafe" (CBS, 1990).--65.92.171.218 04:36, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Archie Bunker's Place

Why did she leave Archie Bunker's Place? Was is because she was only making the occasional appearance? --Reverend Edward Brain, D.D. (talk) 21:03, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

She actually left during the 1st season, rather than after it. Joefromrandb (talk) 09:32, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Noteworthy?

I question whether the fact that she is not related to Maureen Stapleton belongs in the article. Many famous people share last names. Does anyone have a strong opinion about this? Joefromrandb (talk) 11:11, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

I agree, the fact that she is not related to someone does not belong in the article. ~~ GB fan ~~ 13:14, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for your comment. I have removed it. Joefromrandb (talk) 16:10, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

I've often wondered if the two were related, and thanks to your inclusion, I now know. I believe that it SHOULD be included.

It was a mistake to remove this information. Many people wonder if she and Maureen Stapleton are related or even the same person. It needs to be put back as a service to readers. BTW, the Maureen Stapleton article still contains the disclaimer.Jarhed (talk) 02:57, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
I have fixed the Maureen Stapleton article. If reliable sources report that there is "a popular belief that the two are related", it can be added back to both articles. Otherwise it's original research. Joefromrandb (talk) 12:30, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Many celebs may share a last name, but in this specific case a huge number (majority?) of people indeed believe that the two are sisters. I imagine it derives from some specific mistake in an article way back when, but at this point perhaps it's best to just call it "urban myth", I dunno. But it's a common view.

Many obits are even noting this, so a source should now be easy. Someone pls add it back in (and also on Maureen's page)! 209.172.25.215 (talk) 04:33, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

There's a NYT source and I have added it to this article. μηδείς (talk) 21:19, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

World Federalist activities

She was involved with the world federalist movement for many years, but the only reference I can find doing a superficial search is a quote posted on the Canadian organization's site: "The goal of the World Federalists is peace through unity of government. We must support their vision of oneness in diversity, for it is the salvation of mankind."

Does anyone know where a better citation can be found? Tony Fleming 21:15, 2 June 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tonyfleming (talkcontribs)

Reliable source tag

I'm afraid we don't normally consider IMDB as a reliable source, it's a wiki like Wikipedia. It would be helpful if those IMDB refs could be replaced with reliable refs. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:34, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Sources in general

a television appearance doesn't need a further source so long as the episode and character names and date of broadcast or season and episode number identify them, in which case they stand as primary sources. But broader claims need references. μηδείς (talk) 19:26, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

The point of referencing a particular article is that you don't need to rely on other Wikipedia articles to provide evidence that what's being said in this article is correct. WP:V means we need to provide verification for all challenged claims within this article, not just reference out to other Wikipedia articles. As such, several claims here need WP:RS to verify them, not just a slack reliance on claims elsewhere in Wikipedia. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:36, 2 June 2013 (UTC)
I am not sure what you mean by referencing the article by another artice. I assume there was a link to the article for a show that was mentioned? If so, that's just a link, not offered as a reference. But a mere appearance on a show doesn't need a reference beyond the show itself, which is a primary source, so long as that show is properly identified by name, date, etc. E..:
  • John Doe appeared on the June 31st 2142 episode "Mars Attacks" of The Colbert Show is referenced
  • John Doe appeared on an episode of The Colbert Show is linked but not referenced and needs a cn
  • John Doe appeared on the June 31st 2142 episode "Mars Attacks" of The Colbert Show is referenced and linked

THis has been nominated for ITN with myself and Rambling Man listed as updaters. Feel free to nominate yourself if you feel qualified. μηδείς (talk) 20:29, 2 June 2013 (UTC)

Why not on front page, and why still not in Recent Deaths?

I would have thought that an actress who virtually everyone of a certain age recognizes and remembers would have made it to the front page. I don't understand that selection process, and am curious.

More importantly, perhaps, she is still not in the Recent Deaths link from the front page. While the above could be someone's arbitrary decision, this other certainly seems to be an outright error.

I would attempt to fix it, but I'm barely competent to write this entry, so I'll leave it for an expert to do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.22.169.183 (talk) 00:40, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

You already expressed this same concern on Talk:Deaths in 2013 and editors replied to you there. She did appear on the front page (she was added here in the "In the news" section and you can see the selection process at Wikipedia:In the news/Candidates/June 2013#June 1) and she did appear in recent deaths for about a week.
