Meaning of "joder"

"I would get married tomorrow, just to fuck with the church" (mañana mismo, sólo para joder a la Iglesia)

I think that he actually meant "just to get the church pissed off".Mitch1981 (talk) 17:36, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

It is true that the meaning of what he said may be that he wanted to screw with or piss them off, but what the quote says was previously correct. I have restored it. María (habla conmigo) 14:51, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Eliminate inmediately all offensive reference against Spanish Church. Be careful!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.125.79.118 (talk) 11:34, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Someone fluent in Spanish needs to see if he meant "joder" as in "annoy" or "joder" as in "fuck." It seems like he meant "annoy" or "mess with". Check this link for definition http://www.spanish-only.com/2008/11/spanish-word-day-joder/

I'm fluent in both. The truest translation of the phrase, both in connotation and true semantic meaning, is "just to fuck with the church". I have changed it back to this phrasing. --Luis.

I'm from spain and for me the phrase "fuck with the church" looks like If he wants to fuck with the building,hahahahaha...I speak english but I'm not an expert...otherwise I would use "piss of"... 27 November 2010

No mention to his evil character being modeled after George W. Bush

I don't have the citation but only remember it was during an interview at one of the many critic's award ceremonies (New York?) preceding the Oscar ceremony. He said that and the interviewer praised his guts to say it. Both he and, above all, his mother are well-known campaigners for the political left, being regulars in demonstrations against right-wing policies, notably the huge demonstration in Madrid to oppose Spanish involvement in Iraq.

--"his guts to say it."?? Please. That's called preaching to the choir. Bashing George Bush is the favorite past-time of most like-minded folk. And like some interviewer at an Oscar ceremony was going to disagree with that sentiment? You're a fool if you believe so. There's no 'guts' in that. There's no 'guts' involved in any action that you're certain will result in a seriers of pats on ones back. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.53.46.141 (talk) 14:17, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

He obviously knows how to drive because he is shown in several scenes in No Country for Old Men driving a variety of cars. Why is this relevant anyway? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.74.112.227 (talk) 13:47, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Directors and Authors

I just want to know why in the career section there is mentioned the name of Cohen Brothers and not Mike Newell, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and not Cormac McCarthy?Serialno9 (talk) 21:46, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Copyvio tag

Whole segments were lifted from this and other pages of a website, with a few bare changes to the text. In fact, the essay-like, conversational, inappropriate tone of that copyrighted material remained in evidence even despite the cosmetic changes.

That "source," incidentally, is a non-bylined article on a site by a company that is the largest UK home broadband supplier. That may make it a reliable source about broadband, but I'm unsure how that makes it a reliable source about an actor's biography. Surely, there are legitimate, journalistic newspaper and magazine articles that are more appropriate than some anonymous cut-and-paste on an Internet-provider's site. -- Tenebrae (talk) 02:47, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps next time you could flag the offending section in such a way it doesn't blank the subsequent, non-vio copy? That'd be a nice idea. 60.240.72.5 (talk) 14:02, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
I followed the template directions, no more, no less. Your issue is not with me. --Tenebrae (talk) 16:57, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
I think a wiser choice would have been to rollback the edits to remove the copyvio, or delete them manually. That is standard procedure. Cind.amuse 23:15, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
I don't understand. If that's standard procedure, then why is there a copyvio template? --Tenebrae (talk) 02:50, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
You can find the steps to dealing with copyvios here. Basically, the initial step when the {{db-copyvio}} does not apply is to 1. contact the editor who added the content to ascertain whether they hold the copyright; 2. if they don't hold the copyright and all of the content of a page appears to be a copyright infringement or removing the problem text is not an option because it would render the article unreadable, check the page history; if an older non-infringing version of the page exists, you should revert the page to that version.[1] This is a much better option than to directly send the article to the administrators' incidents noticeboard. If there is nothing available in the history, then use the copyviocore template as a last resort. Cind.amuse 04:47, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
I have fixed some of the tone. You can edit and fix as you deem appropriate here. Is this alright with you?--Anen87 (talk) 22:49, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Atheist?

I erased that he's atheist and the category because the citation given [2] does not state so. There's no mention of him saying he is or Does not believe in God/supernatural. Supporting gay marriage does not make you atheist. He could be Agnostic or believes in other religion who knows. Either way you need an interview citation to post something like that.--Anen87 (talk) 20:16, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Notstarring.com

An editor a short time ago added two footnotes using the site http://www.notstarring.com/ as citation. At this particular moment, when trying to access it, I'm getting the browser message "can't find the server at www.notstarring.com." I'll check back later to see if this is a live site and maybe other editors can check as well. What concerns me is that this is probably a secondary site — that is, not a journalistic magazine or newspaper site doing its own research — and if it itself is citing other sources, we should go directly to those sources and site them. --Tenebrae (talk) 18:02, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

They all got secondary citations now.--76.213.225.18 (talk) 00:47, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Personal life again

There was an edit by an IP User on 14th August where he puts in a sentence that Bardem was divorced before he started dating Penelope Cruz. Nowhere in the article does it say anything about a previous marriage. Is this just vandalism from an IP address user. Phil Nolte (talk) 20:52, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Adult Video Network Award?

Removed a mention that he'd won an AVN, which I can't find any sources for and can't imagine to be true. 86.180.242.142 (talk) 00:33, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

Personal Life

Has Bardem ever denied his apparent anti-semitism, after his 2014 remarks referring to Israel's "genocide"? If so, that should be prominently noted. It is an important question, since those remarks are more offensive, and ill-advised, as much so as his untempered earlier remark about the Catholic Church. I have read nothing about him recanting, or apologizing, for his earlier offensive and ugly anti-catholic comment in the midst of that important civil rights issue, in Spain. In neither case is he contributing to a positive solution, or a civil discussion, which is not too much to expect from a somewhat public figure. Sidney Orr (talk) 06:15, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

He was criticizing Israel's indiscriminate killings of Palestinian civilians - nowhere in his comments did he directed his attack on the Jewish people as an ethnicity and to call him an "antisemite" would be a stretch (especially when the Palestinian people are Semites themselves). It's akin to calling a critic of the Chinese government's actions as an antisinoist or having racist attitudes towards the Chinese ethnicity, and to call him a "racist" is just an attempt to smear him for his political stance on people being killed indiscriminately by a superior military force.
Your questions and personal opinions wouldn't be relevant to Wikipedia even if they weren't libelous, Sidney. They really should be stricken as a violation of BLP. But as long as you're already abusing this site (not just in this contribution, but nearly all your contributions), I will mention that, as a Jew myself, I am disgusted by the crimes against humanity committed by the Israeli state, and there are few people that I find more despicable than Jews who defend it and who absurdly call criticism of such government policies "antisemitism". That is vile, malevolent, and evil. Albert Einstein and Hannah Arendt warned the world about people like you back in 1948 in their letter to the New York Times. -- Jibal (talk) 07:00, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

is there a need to mention about a resemblance to a grey's anatomy actor? i find it irrelevant. Other people's thoughts? Also no date given about his relationship with Penelope Cruz (a great couple. god, i don't know which is the better actor in the pair. thankfully they both have oscar's so there's no rivalry there. i've gone off track but anyway i like both of them) it just says "currently" and there's no date on when the reference was accessed.Phil Nolte (talk) 11:35, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

I agree and have removed the lookalike bit. I also updated the source regarding Penelope Cruz from a dubious sort of reference to a bit from People magazine and extended the statement. Wildhartlivie (talk) 00:50, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
So are they in any way related? I saw them on http://totallylookslike.com/upcoming/?pid=4255 they look a lot alike. (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, that is). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.253.156.83 (talk) 17:02, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

"Shot up the front door"

What is this phrase 'shot up the front door'? If you google it, it is almost non-existent except for this very Wikipedia article. I'm not a native speaker of English, and just curious. Thank you. Hhgygy (talk) 19:05, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
