'True' ending

edit

I removed the section on what the 'true' ending was. If you can verify that is it true without speculation (ie a link), I will not remove it again. --Thaddius 03:05, 18 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Serious Problem

edit

Someone (or many people) has decided to plagarise FAQs from gamefaqs on Silent Hill plot analysis. This article was no exception. I'm afraid I'm going to have to remove huge sections of it, or if possible, revert it to an earlier, better version. Xubelox 08:37, 9 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Listen, if you're gonna castrate it to the point like you did to Eileen Galvin, better leave it as is. -- December Man 14:28, 10 July, 2006

category

I think it's safe to put this fellow under Category:Suicidal fictional characters.--Lenin & McCarthy 14:12, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

And would it be considered too much of a spoiler to use Category:Fictional murderers?--Lenin & McCarthy 14:17, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Both are spoilerific. -- December Man 13:15 CEST, 11 August, 2006

David Bowey?!??

edit

Someone seems to think that James looks like Bowey. They even went so far as to put a pic from a video of his to prove their point. The only problem is they look nothing a like and the pic that was posted makes that startingly clear. A reason for the pic being there was becuase Bowey also happens to be looking at himself in a mirror, much like James does in the other pic. This is a shaky point. I basically move that this be removed from the site. Any objections? --Thaddius 17:00, 27 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

It looks like it's just the IP who put it there, judging by the results of a Google search.--Spencer "The Belldog" Bermudez | (Complain here) 14:34, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I agreem i did remove it but it re-appeared. This is all just POV, james looks nothing like Bowie. --Tower Junkie 10:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Removed it... again... --Thaddius 02:11, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Revision

edit

I've noticed the problems with this long-winded article too (Its nicely written from a -story- perspective, but there are MANY details grafted on that would imply a sense of novelty not found in the actual game "Experience) I've noticed that the edit is called for, so hey, I'm doin the job. Let me know what you think! Dream Rurouni 06:38, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

As I'm the person responsible for writing this long-winded article, I'd like to know what it is you intend to alter. Gamer Junkie 06:54, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I originally intended just to edit around your article and take out the most un-necessary information but retain the original work without completely editing it away. However, as the more I looked at Wikipedias "Guide to writing a good article", and while your story perspective is great, its entirely what is not required and what this article was demanding a revision of, and that is a word-for-word account of the plot. I literally had to take out the whole "Truth" article and cut it to what you see now (I've put about 6 hours into this now myself only to cut it down to this much)

If you HONESTLY feel the need to retain your hard work, by all means go back to the earliest version you had on it and subsection it into a "Detailed plot account". I hate to throw it all away myself as it is nice but from a story perspective, but I think they wanted something more on par and trimmed down to Harry Mason and Heather's entries, and this is what I have done. Again, feel free to retract and re-edit it as an add on, but we need the basic outline in all aspects.Dream Rurouni 08:21, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

WP:FICT states that character plot summary should be included in character articles if it hinders the main article, which is why it is featured on this page. Brief summaries of character information is for the main article. In this case Silent Hill 2. I'm reverting it. I'm aware of the fact that it's long, but a discussion must take place in order to determine what is completely unnecessary and what should remain. Some of the information you've deleted is vital to understanding James' state-of-mind and subsequent canon ending. If you wish to discuss an article trim, please open a discussion on this Discussion page, I would like constructive analysis regarding this matter rather than editors reducing articles to footnotes without proper understanding of where plot summary an in-universe information is acceptable. By the way, I'm not certain that detailed plot summary articles are actually allowed. If they are, and you would like to help me go about starting this up, I would be happy to do this. I certainly do not wish to lose this information, it took me quite some time to write, collect and correct everything here. Gamer Junkie 08:48, 28 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nevertheless, this page is stiil too long. I'm going to try and rewirte it. I know it's going to get reverted, but at least we'll have another option on the table.--Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 17:14, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Attempts to rewrite have been going slow. Regardless, I'm going to reinstate the Plot template. --Lenin and McCarthy | (Complain here) 17:56, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
It won't be reverted if it's done properly. Everybody is so intent on cutting this article down without wanting to take the time to do the job properly. I've seen so many decent articles butchered by editors who simply decide to remove everything and not even bother to add and repair links or even correct their spelling and grammatical errors after doing so. In the end, we're left with an even more convuluted and confusing mess than we were to begin with, and to top it off, now it's badly written. I'm saying right now that if anybody here just wants to cut this article to shreds and move on to the next one, then put your hand. This is gonna be done properly or not at all. Gamer Junkie 19:16, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
You should note two things, is that one, two people have already attempted to rewrite the article and you (a user, not a moderator mind you) have reverted the attempts because you don't feel they do "justice" to your original article. This an encyclopedia entry, and the user guidelines on writing a correct entry -are- over stepping the needs to keep a simple outlook on a fictional character. You are defining the entire plot of the game into incredibly long paragraphs that simply put, aren't needed nor desired. Anytime someone disagrees with your article, you get flustered and revert the changes. Simply put, it's not neccesary. More people support change of this article than you, and demand it to keep the entry simple and to the point. You are causing edit wars over something that is in simple need of being cleaned up, not by YOUR judgment, but by fellow posters and administrators of wikipedia.67.142.130.33 22:46, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
First of all, this isn't MY article, I didn't create it, I rewrote it, and only one other person has so far added the changes you're speaking of. Secondly, I don't revert everybody's changes because I don't "like" their edits. I've only reverted the ONCE and once only, because information critical to James' character was removed, as I've already mentioned above. Thirdly, have you even read this discussion? I'm not arguing that the article shouldn't be changed. I'm arguing that it shouldn't be changed for the worse. I've also mentioned supporting the bulk of the plot synopsis being moved to a new article if that's possible and assisting anybody willing to do the job properly. Get your facts straight and read the goddamned discussion before you start throwing accusations and insults. Gamer Junkie 05:32, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I can understand why so many people are upset over the loss or change or their hard work. However, I think it's important that all of us work together in some way to make the article comply with Wikipedia's standards, and to make it the best it can be for the fanbase. Changes should certainly be talked over here, but I believe it will take several peoples' input to get everything in order. Keebo21 15:25, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
My point exactly. Gamer Junkie 17:52, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Crime of Passion

edit

Does anyone else feel that this article could somehow be linked to the Crime_of_passion article on Wikipedia? I just thought that it would make an interesting sidenote. Keebo21 15:32, 30 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I thought a crime of passion was when somebody murdered somebody else out of jealousy or because their lover had cheated on them or something. I suppose the outcome of one ending, depending on the player's actions during the game, shows James to have killed Mary because he loved her too much to watch her suffer any more so I guess it fits. Name

edit

Do we know where he got his name 'Sunderland' from? I live in a place called Sunderland in England and I'm wondering if there's any connection to this place or another place with the same name? MathiasFox 12:55, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Where is everybody?

edit

Are there any people working on James or I am alone? Because I haven't seen any adjustments besides my own.. --Gone923 21:46, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I rewrote the entire article sometime ago. I was considered too long, detailed and overly crufty, so I don't touch it anymore. Don't like writing stuff when 75% of it ends up being deleted. Gamer Junkie 23:10, 4 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh okay I'm trying to summarize it right now.--Gone923 19:46, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
Isn't it already summed up in the lede? Everybody seems so intent on reducing articles to memos for some reason. Whatever, I'm through with it now, so do what you want. Gamer Junkie 19:51, 5 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Character Analysis

edit

Hey guys, just edited the article so the whole thing didn't focus entirely on a plot summary of the game. I think the plot summary is not exactly what this article is after, but someone else can fix it, because someone put a lot of work into it. Some of these analyses come from an interview with Konami on Silenthillheaven.com, but the site crashed shortly after it was put up, so I can't cite it yet, but they say that they are coming back soon. Also, I am working on getting a citation from the game script that DOESN'T come from gamefaqs or IGN game faq's, but that should be done in less than a week. The Phoenix (talk) 06:04, 20 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also, if you are going to undo an edit to any page, state in the talk page why you thought this was necessary. Simply undoing an edit with no explanation doesn't help anything, and causes edit wars. The Phoenix (talk) 21:59, 22 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Beyond SH2

edit

Should someone add information about James found in Silent Hill 4? It seems he is and has been the Manager of the building that Henry lives in since the building was constructed.Divegato (talk) 18:47, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

It's James' father who runs the apartment building. All canon plot information regarding James' fate suggests that he killed himself at the end of Silent Hill 2. In other words, the "In Water" ending is the true version. Gamer Junkie T / C 03:51, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
