It seems to only be used by O'Reilly. I think the page may need to be merged with Open-source model or Open-source software development. Power~enwiki (talk) 02:37, 13 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Although there are other terms such as internal open source, or progressive open source, inner source is an established term in the scientific and industrial context. Other authors use inner source as well, e.g. http://rdcu.be/uqLQ or https://books.google.de/books?id=oKt9CAAAQBAJ&dq=inner+source+software+development+book&hl=de&source=gbs_navlinks_s
I do not think it makes sense to merge these two articles. There are big differences between open source and inner source development, e.g. accessibility (open source is/should be open for everyone, but inner source is restricted to the boundaries of a company), licensing, taxation, etc. The challenges are also different.

Should this page be updated to use the term InnerSource?

Per Riley: "The term we are using was coined by Tim O’Reilly more than 15 years ago. Originally, it was “Inner Source,” but we removed the space between the words so that the term is findable in a search." ^[1]

@Michaeldorner Reverted a page move from "Inner Source" to "InnerSource", citing scientific literature. I don't agree with this as the name of the practice is "InnerSource". Additionally, it's quite confusing for the title/intro to state it as "Inner Source" and the rest of the article "InnerSource". I think it should be moved to InnerSource.

And it's always been "Open Source", never "OpenSource" anyway. Adjoins (talk) 04:45, 24 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
