Sorry but the plot of this film reads like a running commentry from a school child for the first 1/4 of the film and then the important bit- such as the other 3/4 have been totally ignored.
I am going to read up on how this wikipedia lark works, and then re-write one that is a bit better.
It really is a good film and deserves a better plot summary.

I just finished reading the original story as written by Frederick Forsyth - Icon. Reading the movie summary given here, reminds me of how horribly Hollywood treated two other stories by Forsyth (Day of the Jackal and The Odessa File). The screenwriters who transferred this book to film have, once again, butchered the story. They have added details (such as Monk having a daughter) and changed details such as who and how Monk is protected while in Russia and making one of the tertiary characters (retired General of the Army Nikolai Nikolayey) into a totally different character in the film. Also, not covered is the extensive backdrop of agent recruitment that made Monk the man of choice for this assignment. Hopefully, those who do watch the movie will read the book.
