Hyderabad Bus Rapid Transit System → Hyderabad BRTS – common and popular name. See titles in Category:Bus rapid transit in India and Category:Proposed bus rapid transit in India 168.233.20.6 (talk) 04:41, 16 October 2017 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:04, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- @168.233.20.6: But the full name with "Bus Rapid Transit System" is clearer to people who do not know the acronym.
- And also:
- Oppose. Except in exceptional circumstances, it's usually better to expand abbreviations. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:16, 17 October 2017 (UTC)
- Alternate. @Anthony Appleyard, @Necrothesp , Even I initially was of that view, that full-form should be used instead of short-form. But later after going through some articles like for eg FIFA, I changed my view. Wikipedia mostly prefers commonly recognisable names. Well, if editors here feel that full-form would be a better choice, then I would have no issue with same. In that case, I would request to rename all the articles in Category:Bus rapid transit in India and Category:Proposed bus rapid transit in India to their respective full form. Will the discussion here will suffice, or I need to explicitly list all of them in a new request? 168.233.20.6 (talk) 04:40, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
- "Wikipedia mostly prefers commonly recognisable names": that depends on how good each reader is with "alphabet soup". I and likely many others prefer easily-readable fully spelt-out words; acronyms in the beginning were largely for abbreviation. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:27, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Anthony Appleyard, agreed, so now all the similar entries in Category:Bus rapid transit in India and Category:Proposed bus rapid transit in India should be renamed to their respective full-forms. What do you think? 168.233.20.6 (talk) 06:18, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
- "all the similar entries in" :: That is 20 BRTS's and a RBTW. People living in the area likely know what BRTS means, but not necessarily people elsewhere in the world. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 08:22, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
- @Anthony Appleyard,as I have accepted that full-form Bus Rapid Transit System is more appropriate than short-form BRTS, so the above four articles need not be renamed. But now I wish to request name change for all the other 20 BRTS's to their full form, for eg, Surat BRTS to Surat Bus Rapid Transit System. Please process the same.168.233.20.6 (talk) 10:31, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
