Good Article nomination
editHello. I am going to work on this article to become a good article. Ghazaalch (talk) 13:06, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
- A number of new edits that hopefully offer the following improvements:
- Extensive copy-edits and an updated bibliography
- Checked the text against the source and made minor changes to better match the source
- Whenever possible, replaced content from poor sources (e.g., websites) with similar content from reliable sources. However, often left the content intact if a reliable source could not be found. The exception is when the content from an unreliable source seemed tangential to the article, in which case it was removed.
- Summarized whenever seemed necessary
- Restructured the sections, e.g., the section "In Medina" might be uninformative, considering that Ali spent nearly all of his life there. As another example, the section "Battle of al-Harrah" is not just about the battle and "Ibn Zubayr's revolt" seems like a more appropriate title. The section "Companions" doesn't seem to fit under "Works" and the content of this section was not about Ali's companions.
- Expanded "Successor" based on the material from Succession_to_Muhammad#Later_successions. In particular, "according to Twelvers" in the old text was not in the source and it is, as far as I can tell, widely agreed upon that Muhammad al-Baqir was designated by his father as the heir.
- Removed some of the hagiographical content and instead emphasized the narrations and reports about Ali, from which the reader can form his or her own view about Ali's character.
- Removed the pointers to sources within the source, e.g., if our source X cites another source Y, then it seems better to cite X rather than Y or X and Y.
- Reduced the Notes whenever possible by incorporating them into the text. Some of the Notes were used in place of harvnb or sfn and this might be better to avoid for the benefit of consistency.
- Merged "The Fifteen Whispered Prayers" and "al-Sahifa..." sections since the former is often considered as part of the latter.
- It seems difficult to view the section "Schism in Shia..." as part of Ali's biography under "Life". Renamed it and changed the narration to fit the biographical view.
- Merged "Kaysaniyya" with its previous section and removed a few repeated statements (e.g., about Mahdism)
- Left-flushed text boxes tend to throw off the indentation settings
- Rearranged the text in some places for better flow, e.g., lumped similar praises for Ali together instead of placing the content from the same source together.
- Removed the second wife from the infobox. According to Donaldson, Ali has only one wife (and the rest were concubines).
- Possibly other standard changes that are absent from this summary. Albertatiran (talk) 15:16, 23 February 2022 (UTC)
- Albertatiran a lot of the {{sfn}}s you added are undefined. The following are all missing full cites in the Sources section.

Ali al-Husayn 1988

You also added "Sharif al-Qashami 2000" did you mean "Sharif al-Qarashi 2000"? - LCU ActivelyDisinterested ∆transmissions∆ °co-ords° 17:33, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Typo correction, "jusdge" should be "judge" in Husayn's quote. TheAmazing7imar (talk) 22:27, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
