Proposed merge with Hui (informal loan club) edit

Unsure if Hui (secret society) and Hui (informal loan club) are covering different aspects of the same topic, or if one and the other are fundamentally different topics. I think the former, but in the end, some expert on China will have to decide if they are to be merged or not. PanchoS (talk) 18:22, 18 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

The page descriptions look quite different, and given that there has been no support for this over 23 months, I've removed the merge template, but kept the expert-request question (so that the proposal can be re-open or boldly acted on, should an expert wander this way! I think they should be merged. The term itself is used in many ways, and there should be one page that introduces the flexibility and intrinsic vagueness of the term, and also identifies the primary usages, i.e. 1) an association, often on clan, district or patronymic lines (this page) 2) a rotating credit scheme (as mentioned above) 3) a (criminal) secret society 4) other specialized uses, as in the usage in Tongmenghui, a imperial/Republican-era political party. 會 is a Chinese word that can used as a verb or a noun. As a noun, depending on the context, era, and place, it can take on different connotations, like the ones mentioned above. I think it should be merged, although I'm not experienced enough to suggest a good main heading. CA2MI (talk) 18:13, 26 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
