I found some records on Ancestry for a Hugo Gstrein who was born on 17 November (or December) 1912 in Langenfeld, Austria-Hungary. He died on 6 August 1943 in Russia.

However, I also found this site which says he died in September 1949 and that he was the brother of Josl Gstrein - https://www.skischule-obergurgl.com/en/about-us/history/
