Removal of pipes and redirects

edit

MOS:DABPIPE advises that disambiguation pages should not point to pages that are redirects or use piped links. I have removed two examples here. Peteinterpol (talk) 09:19, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

MOS:DABPIPING encourages using piping to maintain itallics and quote marks, as in G-AAUC Horsa. Additionally, redirects are encouraged when the link goes to an article where it's a major focus (as in the James Carrey example for Jim Carrey). Additionally, as the base name Horsa redirects to Hengist and Horsa, it's the primary topic and needs to go above the entries.--Cúchullain t/c 13:10, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that Cúchullain. You may well be correct but I am struggling to understand the third point if that is why the Hengist and Horsa character is given more prominence on this page than the Horsa glider and the rest. Is it regarded as the primary topic of all the Horsa pages? On what basis was that decided? As I say I am not necessarily challenging that, just trying to understand it. In terms of the dab page, it's the de facto primary topic as the base name "Horsa" points to an article, rather than having the disambiguation page there. As such, it goes above the other entries as readers are unlikely to come to this dab page looking for the legendary figure (they'd find him just by typing or clicking Horsa). I'd think he's the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC if only because the other entries are mostly partial title matches and/or get fewer page views. If he's not, then the dab page ought to be moved to Horsa; if you think he's not we can open a WP:RM if you like.--Cúchullain t/c 19:37, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
