Planned Expansion edit

Hello! I am a student at Rice University, updating this page as a subset of my Human Development in Global and Local Communities course! Though the current article is a stub, it provides a useful framework for expansion. I plan to supplement this article with the historical, medical and social context of homelessness and mental health. I will primarily focus on the United States, yet I hope to expand on the international context of this issue. After overviewing large eras of legislative reform, I will expand on prevalent mental illnesses seen with the US homeless. I will also describe the social conditions that provoke or compound mental illness for the homeless. I will then overview societal consequences, such as incarceration and chronic homelessness. Lastly, I will expand on modern government and NGO responses. I’m excited to expand on this page, and I would love any input and suggestions as I work on it for the next couple months! Thanks!

Peer Review edit

This article has a really strong start so far. One of the biggest problems it currently has are the unfinished sections, which I know you're aware of and intend to expand. Apart from that, there are some formatting issues with extra numbers after the sources and a missing source. Several (preexisting?) claims are not sourced, and either need to be sourced or- if they were preexisting- deleted. Your article could also benefit from additional sources and illustrations. I'd suggest checking the Wikimedia Commons for pictures, if there are any available. However, I know it's not the easiest article to illustrate and the article as a whole doesn't suffer that much as is. Otherwise, the article is really good so far, it just needs a little more work and I think it will be a really great and informative article. Good job! - Baileybrash (talk) 00:14, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Really interesting article!! You give really good information, but there are areas where I wish there was more explanation. Elaborating on those sections and proofreading will help take your article to the next level. Also, like Bailey pointed out, there are some formatting issues with your sources, but that's easily fixable. Great job so far! --Kiarasanchez12 (talk) 00:43, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

False edit

This article is riddled with bias and inaccuracies. Mental illness for the general population is 20-25%, as it is with the homeless population http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2012/01/19/1-in-5-americans-suffer-from-mental-illness/. Also, homeless people are less likely to be addicts than the housed population because they have far less disposable income. http://alcoholrehab.com/drug-addiction/homelessness-and-substance-abuse/. Articles like this create false stereotypes that demonize the homeless population. --Scottandrewhutchins (talk) 02:11, 16 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Homeless application refused × 2 edit

Because Iam not from the area , HAVE A FEW GOOD WORDS WITH YOURSELF 'S THANET COUNCIL , AND you cannot refuse a homeless application , ● mental health very clearly unstable

● left previous COUNCIL property , ( fear to / threats to my family and myself

● clearly a vulnerable adult Male , EdWaRd dAnIeL RAYMOND PoPe (talk) 04:08, 2 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Proposed Revision edit

Hello. I am a student at UC Berkeley and I am working on this page. I propose to merge 2 sections, evidence based remediation practices and modern responses, and retitle them as Response. Within this section, I propose to create three subsections: Housing, Access to care (which will include evidence based remediation practices along with updated practices for mental health care), and Challenges. I will organize the existing information, editing for clarity, and including sources tied to the United States as a whole. 12/14 edit: I renamed one section Mental Health Services instead of Access to Care. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abains1721 (talkcontribs) 04:45, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
