Raison d'être for this article

This has been set up as a parallel to several long-established articles. So, does it have a special pov to push, which the existing articles don't offer? Why does it range so far from the history of Roman Catholicism in Spain? What about Roman Catholicism in Spain and Religion in Spain? No mention of Alhambra Decree? I don't get it, I suppose.--Wetman (talk) 05:28, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

The rationale for this article is that it follows a pattern where an article on X is an article about X as it exists today where as an article titled History of X is an article about the history of X. The article on X will often have a "History" section. If there is sufficient material on the "History of X" to warrant a separate article, then the article on X will summarize the History article in its "History" section. (see WP:SUMMARY)

This pattern is common throughout Wikipedia. We have United States / History of the United States and many other X / History of X pairs for countries.

With respect to religions, we have Christianity and History of Christianity. Roman Catholic Church and History of the Roman Catholic Church.

Compare Roman Catholicism in the Republic of Ireland with History of Christianity in Ireland

We also have Roman Catholicism in Mexico / History of Roman Catholicism in Mexico, Roman Catholicism in the United States / History of Roman Catholicism in the United States.

This is the rationale for the pair Roman Catholicism in Spain / History of Roman Catholicism in Spain.

As for the omission of the Alhambra Decree, I am not very knowledgeable in Spanish history and so I wasn't able to get all of the History of Roman Catholicism in Spain into the article at once. That's why I asked for help at WP:SPAIN. Thank you for pointing out the omission; I'll be adding it next. Please be bold and expand the article yourself.

Wetman, I just visited your user page and discovered that you are far more experienced and knowledgeable (though prickly and opinionated) Wikipedian than I had given you credit for when I read your comment above. (In truth, I visted your user page to see just how much of a Wikipedia NOOB you were). So, I apologize for the excessively pedantic response that I posted above. However, now that I know who you are, I am driven to ask: Why the hell did you ask such a silly question? I try not to bite newbies but an old hand like you needs a bite or two for "not getting it".

P.S. Now that I've thoroughly chastised you and insulted you, perhaps you'd care to explain your question "Why does it range so far from the history of Roman Catholicism in Spain?" Why do you think the article "ranges far from the history of Roman Catholicism in Spain"? What needs to be done to get it to come closer to the "history of Roman Catholicism in Spain"?

No introduction, and no explanation of the beginning of Catholicism in the Iberian peninsula

The original article was created largely by Pseudo-Richard. From the start, it has lacked two things: an introduction, and any coverage at all on the _start_ of Catholicism in the Iberian peninsula. It starts with "Visigoths".
