Article Incomplete edit

This article is incomplete. If it is truly a history of professional soccer in Seattle, then it needs to mention FC Seattle and the Seattle Storm of the Western Soccer Alliance and the Seattle SeaDogs of the Continental Indoor Soccer League. Right now, it reads as a history of all the teams named Seattle Sounders. In addition, the year-by-year records and coaches need to be split up. The three Sounders franchises are three different organizations with no relation to each other except the name. KitHutch (talk) 03:03, 22 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Our edits conflicted. I too am confused about what the intention is with this article. See my comments below. --SkotyWATC 03:31, 22 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Article moves edit

Edit conflict with the above section.

I recently moved it with the following justification in my edit summary: "This article treats 3 different clubs as if they're one and the same." An IP editor then tried to undo the move with a copy/paste edit stating the following in their edit summary: "I actually disagree, saying the history of pro soccer in Seattle would reflect on different soccer clubs that were not the Sounders, but of all time in the city. I see it as more misinforming." I've now reverted the IP editor's actions because they destroyed article history (per WP:CUTPASTE). If the consensus is to move the article back, then it should be done correctly. See WP:MOVE for more details on how to do this.

What is the intention with this article? The history of the club named "Seattle Sounders FC" is contained in the team's article including many details going all the way from the creation of MLS until the current season. Prior to that, there have been two distinct clubs that bore the same moniker, "Sounders," the first being the NASL club established in 1974, and the second being the APSL/ULS Sounders established in 1994. I think each of these clubs should be treated separately and their histories detailed in each of their respective articles. This article appears to be attempting to cover the history of all three of these clubs together. Since each of them were the top professional teams representing Seattle in their time, I attempted to clarify the title. I think it's inaccurate and confusing to try to prestent their combined histories as if they were the same club. These are three separate teams and deserve three separate articles. Of course, these are just my thoughts. However, before we move the article yet again (and lets do it correctly when we do), I'd like to get the opinions of more editors on how we should proceed with this article and the history sections of each of the other club articles (NASL and APSL). --SkotyWATC 03:29, 22 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Personally, I have no problem with an article about the history of professional soccer in Seattle. However, a proper article about Seattle's soccer history would include other clubs (Storm, SeaDogs) and treat each Sounders team as a distinct, separate organization. (I was asked by Skoty on my talk page for my thoughts). As the article stands, I see no point to it for the same reasons that Skoty has pointed out. On the other hand, if someone were minded to do the work on the other teams, this could be an intruiging article. If this article is to remain, then as a minimum I would suggest adding appropriate headers for any other teams, and at the very least tagging them as empty or in need of expansion as appropriate. Regardless, I certainly don't think that the season by season table is appropriate (although the content could be used as a starting point for season lists on the first two Sounders teams), and would also suggest getting rid of the uniform evolution altogether. —WFC— 17:19, 25 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Added headers for storm & seadogs. KitHutch (talk) 17:49, 25 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Original Article edit

I must say I do like the new article alluding to all professional soccer in Seattle, and I feel it may need further expansion if there's more information about pre-NASL soccer clubs based in Seattle. However, I don't see why this means the history of the Sounders should be completely pushed into this article. Even if the Sounders are "three completely different clubs", they're still under the Sounders name, and the USL and MLS clubs have the a lot of the same personnel during transition.

Plus the article clearly state, so that people would not irked, that the name was used for different teams over the span of time. And there was plentiful information to truly and accurately describe the history and display each team's results, kits, etc. in a clean, efficient way; rather than a messy array of numerous different articles that were poorly intertwined. But there were three different Sounders franchises. They are not the same teams in anyway even if they share some personnel. The combined uniform evolution, coaches table, honors, and year-by-year results make it look as if there has been one continuous franchise and this is not the case. In addition, this article's focus on the MLS Sounders displays WP:RECENTISM, an unbalanced view of recent events.KitHutch (talk) 14:37, 26 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
Regardless, this page needs some work to show that it's the history of soccer in Seattle, in general. As I read this, it looks solely focused on the history of the Seattle Sounders teams more so than any other Seattle-based soccer team. Quidster4040 (talk) 12:53, 3 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sounders 1994-2008 kits? edit

OK just so you guys know, the Sounders kits from 1994 to 2008 weren't always all white (home) and all blue (away). I'm pretty sure at one point the Sounders wore red. I think it was 2002. And I still remember in 2006 they wore blue at home and green on the road. So I think we need to correct a few things with the Sounders kits from 1994-2008. – Michael (talk) 23:23, 28 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Seattle Reign edit

How do we work the first professional women's soccer team in Seattle, Seattle Reign FC, into this article? Or does the title need to be changed so that it's Sounders-specific?

Hmlarson (talk) 22:17, 26 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Just add a section. This article is meant to cover the history of all soccer in Seattle I think. History of Seattle Sounders FC is Sounders specific. --SkotyWATC 00:23, 27 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ok, will do. The inclusion of the Sounders sidebar is a little confusing if that's the case. Hmlarson (talk) 02:11, 27 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
