border edit

The article mentions that the border was set between NSW and WA in 1829. This is correct, however it does not say that it was 1825 when the border was changed to the 129th meridian, not 1829, before the Western Australian colony was established. This was due to the settlement on Melville Island as noted on this site (the date listed has a typo - 16 July 1925 should read 1825 like on the top of the page.) --Astrokey44 02:28, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Map inaccurate edit

The Blue and yelow map shows NSW from 1825 until 1836. But in fact NSW at this time also included the islands of New Zealand. There is an excellent map which shows the history on the History of Australia page, but here is a new and improved version at - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Australia_history.gif Alan Davidson 00:55, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Chronology edit

Since the article attempts to follow the chronology of the colony, the mention of aboriginal inhabitants should come first.

Duplicate edit

The section on the assembly and elections is duplicated.

Removed duplicate sections edit

There were two short and out-of-place sections entitled "Gold Rush" and "Mid-late 1800s". They were inaccurate, e.g. implying that the Gold Rush was mainly in NSW whereas it was mainly in Victoria, saying that the colony's self-government preceded the breakaway of Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia, rather than the other way around, etc. In any case, all of this information is covered in greater detail and with historically accuracy and chronology in the preceding two sections.

I also worry that the history section in the article on New South Wales is growing (in a stunted, amateurish way), rather than leaving this to be the definitive article. I am about to try tidying up the history summary there a bit again - any editors here please also visit that article. 86.9.117.51 (talk) 18:48, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Removed speculative sentence about meaning of NSW edit

Colony of NSW founded 7 February 1788 edit

Nowhere in this article do I see any reference to the fact that 26 January 1788 was NOT the commencement of the Colony of New South Wales. That was the date the First Fleet arrived at Sydney Cove and took physical possession of the land in the name of George III. But the colony as a legal entity was not created till 7 February 1788. Here are some references to that fact:

Governor of New South Wales does acknowledge the correct date of the foundation of the colony, 7 February 1788, and that Arthur Phillip's inaugural governership commenced only on that date. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 22:13, 25 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Post Labor Era edit

The whole section is full of POV material. A harsh person would say rubbish or at best highly partisan. I'm pruning it back but encourage others to take a crack at writing something a bit more balanced and supported by sources. Tigerman2005 (talk) 03:40, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

General POV material throughout the article edit

I've gone through and deleted such gems as:

Labor stayed in power in New South Wales until 1965, growing increasingly conservative and (according to its critics)[who?] lazy and even corrupt in office. In 1965 a vigorous Liberal leader, Robert Askin, finally broke Labor's long grip on power, and stayed in office for ten years. During these years Sydney began its transformation into a world city and a centre of the arts, with the building of the Sydney Opera House as the great symbol of the period.

For one thing the SHO was already being built before Askin came into power. For someone to describe Askin as vigorous and the Labor government before as lazy and corrupt defies belief. Tigerman2005 (talk) 03:58, 8 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
