editIn case anyone is interested in expanding, it appears there's a biography on him in the Dictionary of National Biography, which presumably has more detail than this stub, but I don't have easy access to that work. --Delirium 11:22, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Needler manuscripts
editThis article, and indeed Needler's entry in the Dictionary of National Biography Online, each refer to multiple volumes of Needler manuscripts in the British Library, but I just searched the BL MSS catalogue online and I could only find one 44-page volume of transcribed Palestrina secular vocal music.
The 1894 printed DNB states: Needler's extensive transcriptions from the Oxford and other libraries are in the British Museum Addit. MSS. 5036 to 5062.
I cannot find any trace of them in the catalogue!

more on those Needler MSS
editI can report that the MSS appear in the printed, and not the online catalogue (as at August 2009) as "Needler (Henry), of the Excise Office. Transcribed the MSS. 5036-5062."
