Sonny Bono

In trying to pin down more details about Sonny Bono, those sources that do cite a location all say "Orion" (e.g. CNN). A check of the current (2004/5) trailmap shows two blue runs with "orion" in their name, both off the "dipper express" chair. Only the "Orion Wave" one is high on the mountain, as several sources claim Bono was. I deliberately didn't put "Orion Wave" in the article, as resorts are prone to keeping the overall name of features but changing details, particularly after they've changed how a run is set out; so it's quite possible the run was called Orion Somethingelse back when Bono died. If someone has an old Heavenly trailmap, or can remember better, we can change the article to show the real name of the run.

I also didn't put his time of death. Several reports say he was reported missing to ski patrol at 4.30, but that's the end of the day (and you'd generally not report someone missing for a couple of hours, particularly someone skilled like Bono). So he quite possibly hit the tree after lunch and laid there all afternoon. If I remember the scenery there, it's quite possible to mess up, ski off the run into the forest, and no-one would ever chance upon you. -- John Fader (talk · contribs) 20:34, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

They'd make nice additions to the Lake Tahoe page, but as one really can't see the ski resort I guess they're not ideal for the ski resort. Heavenly is rather hard to photograph, because it's the convex surface of the mountain (as opposed to a bowl place like Squaw). I did make a rendering using NASA World Wind, which is sufficiently detailed that one can see the individual ski runs. To make it useful I'd have to hand annotate the render and maybe draw on the skilifts, but I've not gotten around to doing so. Longest Run

There is no citation on the longest run claim. My personal experience (ie original research) is that the Olympic Downhill trail from Olympic Express lift top to Stagecoach lodge is about 2.0 miles. Essaunders (talk) 18:48, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
