Employee titles list edit

The deletion of the list of titles employed at the HMSC was accompanied by the summary rm useless list. I added the list in desperate frustration for not finding much about the center itself, except for the occasional P.R. puff piece. I don't agree that it was useless, but I do agree that it should not stand as it was. However, this article hasn't attracted much TLC. Now that it's gone, I'm thinking it was better with the list. Unfortunately, every one of my attempts to rework the list into prose has encountered considerable need of synthesis, original research, and unverifiable facts due to knowing several people who work there. Thoughts? —EncMstr (talk) 19:47, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I removed it. Having a small paragraph stating "the Science Center contains XX, YY, ZZ" seems fine, but having a huge list of all titles is not exactly encyclopedic. I should have said "rm unencyclopedic list" instead. Hopefully having NOAA moving their fleet to Newport will make refs easier to find. tedder (talk) 19:52, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure how titles are encyclopedic. Who (besides insiders) cares (I speak as an outsider here)? The world wants to know about the facility, what it does, what the facilities contain, and why it's important. IMHO, titles have nothing to do with this. Assessment edit

This is start-class now, working towards C, so I am re-rating it. Donlammers (talk) 01:33, 5 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Clarification of NOAA location edit

The phrase, "though NOAA itself is now located in Newport", appearing in the first paragraph of the Employees section, doesn't make sense. NOAA is of course still headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, so it's unclear what the phrase is trying to say. The phrase was introduced without explanation by an anonymous editor on 26 May 2015. It may be a sort of arm-waving reference to the fact NOAA's Marine Operations Center-Pacific was relocated from Seattle to Newport in 2011, to a location on the same spit as the Hatfield Center, an event that's not otherwise referred to in the article, but which is the subject of an Oregon Live article which is referenced earlier in the paragraph. Anyhow, I think the phrase at it stands should be removed, but it's been sitting there without objection for four years. Does anyone object to me removing it?
