• The atmospheric pressure on Haleakala is about 700mbar, compared to 1000mbar at sea level. So 30% of the atmosphere (or about 1/3) is below the summit. Hobbema (talk) 02:25, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Protests

There have been significant protests against the presence of the observatory (here is one example: https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/36022915/officials-gear-up-for-potential-protests-ahead-of-telescope-construction-atop-haleakala/ ). Should there be a section on this in the article?
