Gonzalez, tenure & telescope time

There seems to be chatter around the blogs (e.g. this[1]) that indicates that Gonzalez is getting virtually no time on major telescopes. Can anybody find a reliable source confirming this? Hrafn42 13:40, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

John Hauptman

I added the following, with citation, to the "Tenure Controversy" section: "Some ID proponents, however, have countered these claims by pointing to John Hauptman stating that ID did play a role in Gonzalez's tenure denial." 66.169.114.56 16:53, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Controversy length

We need to either expand the biography or shorten the controversy. We need to be fair to him as the controversy shouldn't be the main majority of the article. C56C 16:55, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

I tried to add a little on some of his earlier work and think it would be good if someone in his field could add more. The problem is that the controversy is the main basis of his notability, so it has to be covered. I've tried to keep coverage of the controversy balanced and previously have deleted some things that went too far toward one side or the other. Raymond Arritt 14:12, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

In response to this question in an edit summary, non-free on-line sources are no less helpful than off-line ones. Free online ones are of course preferred, but that isn't always possible. HrafnTalkStalk 04:59, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Des Moines Register

I've just been doing a ref-cleanup and all links to the Des Moines Register appear to be broken. Waybacking them doesn't seem to work. Google-searching lists two articles mentioning Gonzalez -- but the accessing them directly doesn't yield results, though Google-cache does: [2][3] HrafnTalkStalk 06:02, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Looks like DMReg's archived stuff is now served from something called newsbank.com. You can go to the desmoinesregister.com web site and do a search that will take you there, giving results like this.[4] Probably within a week or two Google will have crawled their archive. Raymond Arritt 06:33, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Neither searching desmoinesregister.com, nor newsbank.com directly, turns up any of these articles. HrafnTalkStalk 07:35, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

User:LenoreMarks/LenoreHersman

I would like to point out that 'Lenore Hersman Marks' is the name of the deceased mother of Robert J. Marks II (whose article LenoreHersman created), who is an ID advocate and has made statements about the Gonzalez tenure controversy:[5]. As such, whichever living member of the Marks family is using these nicks would appear to have a WP:COI on this article. HrafnTalkStalk 07:41, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Odd bolding in the faculty statement box.

Some words are bolded in the faculty statement box, some are not. A note showing the reason for this, or removing bolded text, would be appropriate. As it is, it appears as if someone is writing a press release for sound-bites. Charles Merriam (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 17:07, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

The bolding is in the original -- as is the "is" that you incorrectly 'corrected'. Might I suggest that you read the original text of a quotation before attempting to correct it. HrafnTalkStalk 17:22, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

'Tenure controvery' section

This section is getting quite large (unsurprisingly) and could do with splitting up into sub-sections. Any suggestions? HrafnTalkStalk 05:01, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

The Regents met today and a vote of 7-1 was cast. His tenure is denied. Angry Christian (talk) 18:14, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
I've added a much better RS for this than the campus newspaper--the story in Chronicle of Higher Education. The write-in blog comments following the story offer some interesting academic views on ID, though they of course are not usable sources. DGG (talk) 16:27, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Regarding removal of ScienceBlogs sources

ScienceBlogs is not a reliable source. (1) because they're blogs and (2) because they're not peer-reviewed. ScienceBlogs admits so much here:

We do not edit their work and we do not tell them what to write about.

Iowa State University position?

Anyone have a little more backkground on his time at Iowa State University? Such as, when he started and other activities he did at the school (if he was ever an advisor to undergrads)? Also we need to source where he got his other degrees. Paper45tee (talk) 18:23, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Reasons for Denial

I claim that this section violates NPOV and NOR. The following fragment is not actually supported by its citations: "The Discovery Institute misrepresents an op-ed by John Hauptman, one of Gonzalez's colleagues in the physics department. Hauptman states clearly that Gonzalez's work falls far short of what scientists know to be science, containing not one single number, not one single measurement or test of any kind."

The first sentence makes an overt conclusion, one obviously not present either in the Discovery Institute's paper nor in the original editorial. The second sentence is not a neutral summary of the Hauptman op-ed. Both sentences are probably true, but they are opinion and not verifiable. Complicating matters, the Hauptman editorial isn't online, anymore, as noted elsewhere. However, fragments of it in 2007 references do not support the summary given here. I've made no change in the text. Tibo10405 (talk) 15:07, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

The problem is not WP:NPOV, but rather WP:SYNTH & WP:SELFPUB (oh, and new threads go at the bottom). HrafnTalkStalk(P) 18:01, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Middle name?

Does Guillermo Gonzalez have a middle name or initial? --Guy Macon (talk) 15:22, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Request for semi-protection

I have requested semi-protection[6] at WP:RFPP.

We are seeing disruption from the ongoing Discovery Institute intelligent design campaign.[7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14]
