- There aren't precise dates available, but the Red Army didn't introduce traditional ranks until 1935, before that commanders were referred to be their position title. All that's known is that he was a captain (equivalent to US Army major) by 1937 (and possibly from 1935), major (LTC equivalent) at some point, and colonel by 1940.
