editDonegal is in the Republic of Ireland, not Northern Ireland. I have made the appropriate change.
Ulaid as subject kingdom
editCurrent sentence "The kingdoms of Ulaidh and Kingdom of Oirialla were two subject kingdoms in the North under the general rule of Aileach." is not correct - Ulaid was never under Cenél nEógain general rule of Ailech nor - as I understand the phrase - a "subject-kingdom". Even for Airgíalla "subject-kingdom" might be a tad to strong. To quote an easily accessible reliable source mentioning both:
"Cenél Eogain became dominant in 789... ...They expanded
southwards and eastwards across the mid-Ulster plains in the eighth and ninth centuries. This brought the large sub-kingdom of Airgialla and the great monastic town of Armagh under their control... ...
The kingdom of the Ulaid, now reduced to the lands east of the Bann with some small outliers, held out against Cenél Eogain. It maintained a precarious independence and did not recognise the overlordshipy [sic?] of the kings of Tara before the middle of the ninth century."
Donnchad Ó Córrain (p.2-3) Note that "recognise the overlordshipy" does not imply being a subject kingdom - at one point or another in history every region in Ireland accepted "overlordshipy" from Uí Néill. The part about Ulaid will definitely have to be removed, possibly also the part about Airgíalla. Finn Rindahl (talk) 22:38, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
