Position edit

He plays five-eighth for Melbourne, Centre for Queensland, Wing for Australia, has played at full-back a number of times for the Storm and seems to slot in there within games when Billy Slater plays a more ball-playing role. Utility back would seem to do him a disservice. Alexsanderson83 07:47, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Agreed, he could play any position with distinction at a rep level. Michellecrisp (talk) 08:11, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't know where to put this, but can someone please re-check this page and cut the crap? "In Australian culture, a handshake agreement between men is believed to be as respectable and as binding as a written legal document. The fact Inglis reneged on a handshake agreement with the Broncos caused a large deal of backlash in his adopted home state of Queensland." This is beyond stupid and makes me sick, especially with ZERO facts supporting it. Also Where is the PROOF that the broncos let go Falou to get Inglis? There is NONE! I am a Broncos fan, but this article is way too one sided! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.131.0.222 (talk) 04:07, 15 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Can we cut back on the crap about which state Inglis should be playing for? edit

User:Gibson Flying V has just added what Inglis' cousin thinks on the matter.

This stuff is NOT encyclopaedic. It's media pap. Too much of it already in the article.

I reverted the change. Gibson Flying V put it back with an Edit summary telling the world that it's "nothing but relevant". Obviously no debate is possible there, and I don't want an Edit war. Do we all really think that the home state argument is THAT important? Remember that this is a global encyclopaedia. I doubt if the world really cares. HiLo48 (talk) 03:43, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for taking an interest in the quality of this article and sharing your opinion on this matter. A quick Google search should illustrate quite clearly that Inglis' State of Origin eligibility is a source of interest. I fail to see how mentioning it in his biography it is unencycloedic and would suggest that an article on Inglis which ignores the matter would be severely lacking in quality, not the inverse, as you suggest.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 03:47, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Please look at it from a global perspective. That's our readership. Not just the NSW fans and the local media. And I didn't say to remove it all. Just put in in a broader picture. But really, that addition? What his cousin thinks FFS? We should mention that NSW fans are unhappy. Tell the VERY basic story. And leave it at that.
Fortunately, editors of Wikipedia are not faced with such dilemmas as how to treat certain topics, as reliable, third-party sources dictate this for us. The abovementioned Google search yielded the following (I'm limiting this to articles that name Inglis in the title):
2008 Greg Inglis' Dad defends son's decision to be a Maroon
2010 Greg Inglis sticks with Maroons
2010 'Hurt' Inglis has no regrets rejecting Blues
2011 Grey area in NRL players' contract to get chop to avoid Greg Inglis-style Origin defections
2012 State of Origin rules overhauled to avoid repeat of Greg Inglis Queensland defection
2012 Fed-up Meninga says NSW should stop bleating over Inglis
--Gibson Flying V (talk) 04:03, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for proving my point. All of those (except one) are from the involved states. Look more broadly. Think globally. HiLo48 (talk) 04:13, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

If there were a rule that states biographical articles should only use sources from outside the subject's home country you'd have the ghost of a point.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 04:17, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

To me, the massive distortion here is obvious from the fact that you want to include what his cousin thinks? What on earth does that have to do with his eligibility? What on earth is it doing in the article? It's classical trivia, of interest only to someone obsessed with the matter. HiLo48 (talk) 05:37, 23 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
