Having Green Bridge map to Pedestrian Separation Structure - is a vehicle centric way of describing these structures. More commonly the term Green Bridge is used to promote the green environmental outcomes of encouraging pedestians and cyclists to choose modes other than their private vehicles. An old world view was that the reason that footpaths, overpasses and underpasses were built by highway engineers was to prevent the pedestrians and cyclists becoming a hazard for vehicles on the road (they might dent the paint in an accident). The green bridge movement however is about choosing to invest into the cyclists and pedestrans because of the health and congestion benefits of more people walking and cycling. So green bridges are built where the pedestrians and cyclists want them - eg to help over contours or rivers - not just to seperate from vehicles on roads. 203.3.64.1 (talk) 03:51, 15 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
