Take out that part about WatchMojo.com

In the Legacy section of the article, you should take out the part about WatchMojo.com. It is not a reliable or credible source of any sort of information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.126.120.180 (talk) 16:48, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

According to this discussion here, WatchMojo.com should be alright for the context of the article, but I will remove the InsiderMonkey source soon. This is a Good Article, so let's remove the questionable sources. Thanks!--TerryAlex (talk) 01:00, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

Old text:

″Girls′ Generation (Hangul: 소녀시대; RR: Sonyeo Sidae)″

Should be changed to:

″Girls′ Generation (Hangul: 소녀시대; RR: So Nyeo Shi Dae)″

Why?

Take a look at the Google search results: enter "so nyeo shi dae pronunciation" in the search box.
Not done Revised romanization of 소녀시대 is Sonyeo Sidae. Snowflake91 (talk) 22:28, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

Old text:

″Their fifth Korean studio album, Lion Heart, was released in 2015.″

Should be changed to:

″Their sixth Korean studio album, Holiday Night, was released in August 2017.″

Why?

This section is an overview of what Girls' Generation is all about. By replacing the old text with the latest news, we are simply giving the reader some information about GG's last studio production. The "about" section should not contain an exhaustive list of all their endeavors. The History section is perfectly suited for that purpose. AMasterGhi (talk) 22:02, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
Done Added Holiday Night. Snowflake91 (talk) 22:28, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

10th anniversary album

heres what i was thinking for now:

Korean albums

  • Girls' Generation (2007)
  • Oh! (2010)
  • The Boys (2011)
  • I Got a Boy (2013)
  • Lion Heart (2015)
  • TBA (2017)

How about no, is it that hard to wait for official confirmation and album name? Snowflake91 (talk) 18:21, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Obviously, you've never been a kpop fan. Besides, the same was done with NRG and SES, so why not?76.174.35.70 (talk) 17:07, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

Because this is GA standard article and we dont list random unconfirmed stuff here. Snowflake91 (talk) 19:12, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, well also, this isn't "random, unconfirmed" data, as it is quite big right now:https://www.soompi.com/2017/04/15/yoona-confirms-plans-girls-generations-upcoming-comeback/ Don't you think it's a bit off that wikipedia didn't bother to update its info on this? There's not even any mention of a comeback76.174.35.70 (talk) 15:53, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

Yes it is random, uncofirmed data – provide just one link where SM Ent. confirms the comeback, not some random statements made by yoona on a talk show over two months ago. And soompi.com is unreliable source per WP:Korea anyway. Snowflake91 (talk) 16:42, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

http://www.koreaboo.com/news/sm-confirms-girls-generation-comeback-date-fan-meeting/76.174.35.70 (talk) 20:46, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

You were saying76.174.35.70 (talk) 15:48, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

Koreaboo is not reliable either, and it wont be added until they set a date and album name, this is an encylopedia and not a news page Snowflake91 (talk) 15:59, 26 June 2017 (UTC)
Considering it was translated from Naver theres no reason it shouldnt have been included.A zero context aproach is not a logical way of going on about things. After all just because it comes from Koreaboo doesnt mean their sources arent reliable. And in all fairness when have they been wrong on information regarding comebacks debuts or anything that comes form a companys press relase anyway? They are gonna be decade old news sites soon.At what point do you just accept that they can and have provided reliable information and are no more less likely to get something wrong than sites like NYtimes or Washington post.Especially when it comes to the topic of Kpop and Korean media in general?Wikipedia is an encylcopedia and those require constant updating.Being on top of a situation is part of editing on Wikipedia.Especialy since it had a reliable source Naver from a Sm rep.Which was your request.Instead of trying to move the goalpost in the future just admit the reqirements are met.Junkoo (talk) 21:10, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
It is considered unreliable per WP:KO/RS, so go and complain at this talk page instead about reliability of those sensationalistic sites, this is a GA standard article and not some random kpop wikia. Just open this poor website and see the headlines like "10+ Things SEVENTEEN Would Do For Their Crush" and "15 Pictures of Korea’s Hottest Teacher That Will Make You Want To Go Back To School" – yeah, very professional and reliable site. Snowflake91 (talk) 21:18, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
And those articles somehow compromise the reliability of the sourced SM ent rep confirmed Naver article how exactly? Also why did you even mention them they are under a comepletely different category which you can see at the top above the headline.I know about WP:KO/RS its unlogical and full of asskissing passive agressive superiority complex protectors that only hurt the already horrible reputation Wikipedia has.Ive tried to get a discussion but they are too stuck up to admit its even up to discussion let alone they are in the wrong.Just because the article has been translated doesnt make it unreliable news in any way shape or form especially since the source link is stabbing you in the eyes.Again every single link should actually be looked at not dismissed because of some preconcieved notion. How is someone supposed to be an editor when he cant even understand that?Youd think editors working on a GA article should be able to handle clicking a link to a source. You seem to suggest otherwise. And the irony of it all is that random kpop wikias have more detailed and uptodate information so dont throw them shade as if they are below you.Junkoo (talk) 14:01, 13 August 2017 (UTC)
Who cares, use Kpop wikia then, this is an encylopedia and not a news website to get the latest news. And no, just because it was Google translated by some amateur moderators on Koreaboo, which are probably teen girls, it is not a reliable source of any kind, I suggest reading about reliable sources gudilines on Wikipedia or something. Koreaboo has NO info anywhere on their website about who is writting the news articles and what kind of competence they have, so this alone makes it completely unreliable, its like citing a forum thread as a source. Snowflake91 (talk) 15:51, 13 August 2017 (UTC)
Im sorry but how does adding a name make facts more true? You just disqualified people based on age and gender. And moved the goalpost on being factually right by boiling it down to adding a name and a picture.IGN is an unreliable mess of a site compared to most Kpop related sites yet they get a pass because they can throw huge amounts of money on advertising as being credible.Just like any other news channel paper or site. There is 0 and i repeat 0 garantee that just because someone wasted server space to upload a picture or add a name to try and score personalility points with readers makes them more credible. If you cant see the double standard im sorry. But just because someone has been around longer doesnt make them reliable. If an article has a source from any of the WP:KO/RS and contains the needed information for reference. Then its reliable.Big news stations get information from local paper. The News station doesnt become unreliable because it has a source now does it?Or the other way around.Junkoo (talk) 16:27, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

Edit request: Member changes

Sooyoung, Seohyun and Tiffany did not re-sign with the company, while Taeyeon, Yuri, Yoona, Hyoyeon and Sunny did. SM has confirmed this, saying "The members do not think of disbandment at all. SNSD is a valuable and meaningful group for both SM and their fans. But since there are members who have ended their contracts, we will discuss with the remaining members about the future direction of SNSD and proceed with caution."

Tiffany wants to study overseas and work on solo stuff, while Sooyoung and Seohyun want to become actresses. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.218.173.161 (talk) 15:58, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Until more official news come out, please keep the current 8-member line-up of the group. According to the news that came out today [1][2], the three members might have left SM Entertainment, but no news said they left the group and no official arrangement yet to be made on the group lineup. Even with articles like these, [3] [4], they all are just speculations at this time. Thank you. --TerryAlex (talk) 21:32, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Tiffany and Sooyoung both removed Girls' Generation from their Instagram bios and how exactly should they be able to promote with them when they left the agency? This makes little to no sense. They officially left the company and at least two of them are over with the group. Tiffany wants to go to the USA. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.5.61.239 (talk) 15:39, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

Suggested edits to formation and debut

I have run into several sources like this that mention of several trainees who nearly made it to Girls' Generation but did not make it: https://snsdkorean.com/2010/01/02/the-making-of-so-nyuh-shi-dae/

As you can see, this link is an unreliable source. However, there are several more that nearly tell the exact same story. I am still looking for a reliable source and I would appreciate help looking.

This particular article mentions the following trainees (most of which are very well known today):

  • Lee Yeon-hee-Actress
  • Hwang Bora-Actress
  • Zhang Liyin-Mandopop Soloist
  • Kim Yejin-Status Unknown
  • Bae Seok-bin-Status Unknown
  • Lee Hwan-hee-Status Unknown
  • Jang Ha-jin-Scholar; Author of "Tell Me Your Wish"
  • Seo Hyun-jin-Actress; member of the SM Entertainment group, M.I.L.K from 2001-2003.
  • Park So-yeon-Member of T-ara from 2009-2017
  • Stella Kim-Scholar
  • Heo Chan-mi-Member of Coed School from 2010-2013; Member of F-ve Dolls from 2011-2012

I have a confirmed reliable source that Soyeon was in SNSD, so that just leaves the rest. I'd appreciate it if anyone can help me search for the other trainees.-K-popguardian (talk) 20:55, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Please help to not add unnecessary information to the "Formation" section of the article. What we need is a brief history of the official 9 members, not excessive info of the members who never officially debuted as a part of the group. Hardcore fans of the group might be aware of these "unofficial" members, but for the general public and Wikipedia purposes, it fails the notability criteria. Personally, the current revision of the "Formation" on the main article looks fine to me. Moreover, this is a Good Article, so we gotta be considerate in what info to include and not include & not adding unnecessary information. Thank you very much. --TerryAlex (talk) 00:16, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
This is an encyclopedia. If anything, the main priority should be historical facts, not article quality.-K-popguardian (talk) 20:27, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
Both go together. If historical facts are marginal or not notable, then the quality of the article diminishes if we try to include them. Dr. K. 21:01, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
the current form isnt that accurate. This is basically what im reading (Note: what im saying is innacurate, but im trying to make an example right now:) Jessica came 2004. Tiffany came 2005. Taeyon came 2006. Girls Generation debuted." Thats not how it worked. There were 3 revisions total. At least mention that the group went through several revisions before it came to that lineup.-K-popguardian (talk) 21:51, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
K-popguardian, I know you are a good editor who goes by our policies. I have no objection to your edits. The only thing I would note is just to discuss with TerryAlex, in case there is a point that needs addressing. Take care. Dr. K. 22:02, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
K-popguardian, every agency has an internal process where they pick out the potential candidates to debut together as a musical group. Whether they make it to the final lineup or not depends on many factors. It does not mean that these potential candidates can ever be considered to be a part of this musical group and should be included in this article. The information about these unofficial members have never officially been published by the agency themselves either. These information, whether accurate or inaccurate, are being done by fans of the group, which I think can be considered as WP:OR. The "Formation" section serves as a brief history on how each of the 9 official members entered the entertainment industry, not as excessive details of how "potentially" this musical group could have become. In fact, we don't know it, unless we are the agency or the 9 members themselves; and frankly speaking, we, as in the general public, don't need to know about it either.--TerryAlex (talk) 22:08, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello. I was looking to update the Girls' solo activities. Hyoyeon's is several years out-of-date. Tiffany, Sunny and Seohyun's SM Station singles are not mentioned. Years active

Same as Talk:Girl's Day, according to template documentation it should be "2007–2017" – that doesnt mean they disbanded in 2017, but that they are inactive (no promoting/releasing anything) since then, otherwise it could stay "2007–present" forever, you know that they will never officially disband the group. It's also silly that 3 members are without a contract for almost 2 years now, but they are still marked as "active" members. Snowflake91 (talk) 10:10, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

I agree, it should reflect the years that they’re actually active. Same as when male idols or actors leave for their military service, if they’re not actually active then their articles should reflect this. This could also be applied to f(x) (group) who have also been inactive for a while now. Alexanderlee (talk) 10:43, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
Well then I agree with the years active being 2007–2017, as long as there are sources for that (this is quite tricky because they are not officially inactive; probably we can write that "the group has been unofficially inactive since 2017 for solo projects" or something similar). That said, I apologised for my reverting your edit without compelling reasons :) (talk) 06:52, 22 May 2019 (UTC)
There must be some kind of source in Korean which would say that they are on "hiatus" since 2017 or something? Snowflake91 (talk) 09:30, 22 May 2019 (UTC)
Unless there is a source that specifically states that they are on a hiatus or that they have disbanded, there is no reason to modify the years_active field in the infobox and put an end year. Doing so violates WP:SYN. The Black Eyed Peas announced their hiatus and their return to music, so there are breaks in the infobox of that article. Sade (band), which releases an album once a decade, has never announced any breaks, so the field remains constant. xplicit 04:00, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
The source I added yesterday says that they are on a hiatus, but it doesnt specifically says since 2017. Snowflake91 (talk) 08:55, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
This seemed fine up until I read the Elite Daily article. It has a seriously shady history. I have opened a discussion regarding its reliability and use as a source over at WP:RSNB#Elite Daily. xplicit 11:02, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
This was years ago, ED is now owned by the Bustle Digital Group which seems legit, also entire staff and board has been replaced since then. Snowflake91 (talk) 11:26, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Actually, Bustle Digital Group is wobbly at best, see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 262#RfC: Bustle and WP:RSP. Bustle (the magazine) and Mic have editorial policies and editorial standards that pushed them to unclear reliability bracket. Elite Daily does not appear to have either, which is why it should be discussed at the noticeboard to determine if it falls in that same bracket or the generally unreliable one. xplicit 12:09, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
I have a small question, does Oh!GG's activity in 2018 count as an active year for Girls' Generation as a whole? @Snowflake91: (talk) 07:47, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
Probably not since they are officially a separate musical entry, even though its weird since all SNSD members (the real members, not the ones which obviously left but they are still "officially" part of the group) are now part of this subgroup so Oh!GG is basically a SNSD since 2017. Snowflake91 (talk) 08:57, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

Correction for Years Active

Girls' Generation did not disband; some members just transferred agencies. Please make the "2007-2017" to "2007-present". Thank you very much! 119.92.1.140 (talk) 16:23, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

See literally just one section above, years active does not means "disbanded". Snowflake91 (talk) 16:27, 7 June 2019 (UTC)
Not this way. All groups have breaks, the same BTS announced a break (https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/k-town/8527126/bts-taking-extended-period-of-rest-and-relaxation-big-hit-entertainment-kpop) but no one sets the year of their last activity for 2019. Until the disbandment is officially announced, this cannot be corrected. YR-MASTER (talk) 20:58, 13 September 2019 (UTC)

They are inactive, and the first link is OH! GG and not SNSD. Snowflake91 (talk) 20:25, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
There is no such groups. There is a group "Gilrs' Generation". There is a subgroup "Gilrs' Generation - Oh-GG!". Not even officially a break was announced to talk about inactivity. At the same time, SM officially opens the Girls' Generation fan club and releases an official merch. Is wikipedia or amateur activity here? YR-MASTER (talk) 21:16, 13 September 2019 (UTC)
"Inactive" does not mean "disbanded", they havent officially performed or had any professional activities as a group since 2017. So what if they are selling merch? So is Michael Jackson and other deceased artists, are they still active then? They are just trying to squeeze the last dollars from the fans as they know that the group is dead and cannot compete anymore with Twice or Blackpink etc., opening a fan cafe does not really mean anything, when they will perform again or release stuff, then they will be an active group.
