  • "Man is the result of a purposeless and natural process that did not have him in mind." [1]

Was he an atheist, or did he just think evolution had nothing to do with God? --Uncle Ed 16:13, 2 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Come to think of it, we need a list of scientists who supported evolution and also linked evolution with atheism.
It would shed light on the murky dispute between those who say evolution is neutral with respect to religion, and those who aver that it is deliberately used as evidence in favor of atheism. --Uncle Ed 04:05, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
And what would such a list be called? List of scientists who supported evolution and also linked evolution with atheism isn't the best name for an article (or category). Richard001 (talk) 03:12, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Okay folks. first, the link above at the end of the quote, is to an "intelligent design book"
As for 'god'-: creating the word God, or god is human, as is the topic category of theism. If..... as a human being, a member of Homo sapiens, you can't or won't study enough to learn the meaning of words, and what science, and a "timeline" of earth history means, then don't pretend to tell others that as a fellow human, that you do understand the linkages, of time & space.
I believe we are here by "luck", and we wouldn't be here talking about it, ....if it hadn't happened. Simpson's statement is not a religiously-defined, or definable statement. The whole thing going on in USA, (right now) "Progressive, democratic, (perfectionist)-determinism", was first attempted in the 1800's, with roots in religion in earlier centuries-(also in Science definitions: the battle in the 1800's was between: Castropheism-(god) vs. (a natural 'evolution' system)(Now we know there have been 5 (we perform the ~6th) extinctions-castropheisms-(species extinction, or extirpations). (It is all being sorted-out as we speak, in the USA.) The reason a G.G.Simpson stuck to defining the base layers of a pyramid of understanding, is... if you don't see how the base layers of knowledge, interrelationships, are,... then you'll never get to the understanding at the apex of the Pyramid, the pyramidion. (the summit, of it obviously)..Mmcannis (talk) 16:06, 25 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Some here; the earliest ones must be public domain by their age (pre 1923). Richard001 (talk) 03:12, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hang on, that's for published works. Since these were probably never published, that won't apply. Richard001 (talk) 07:42, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Weird edit

' George Gaylord Simpson was one of the major evolutionary biologists of the 20th century. He is considered one of the founders of the modern evolutionary synthesis and is particularly important as the only paleontologist among its founders. His achievements include

  • With Ernst Mayr, being the chief advocates of the evolutionary systematics approach to biological classification
  • Assimilating the adaptive topographies of Sewall Wright into paleontology in his discussion of adaptive zones
  • Arguing the relevance of these views in explaining long-term evolutionary change, and thereby arguing against separate mechanisms for long-term evolution than for short-term evolution
  • Doing some of the first quantitative examinations of rates of evolution in the fossil record
  • Major discussion of species concepts, putting forward his 'evolutionary species concept' as competition with the 'biological species concept'

He was also a major mammalian paleontologist, specializing in South American mammals. His classification of mammals was the most important one of the 20th century and has continued to be the basis for later revisions using molecular sequences.

This is hinted at in the introduction of this page, but then most of the space below seems to go to his criticisms of exobiology, surely one of the least importanr things he ever did! Felsenst (talk) 00:12, 11 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
