Etymology: Rib of a bicycle seat, or of a horse saddle? edit

In the 1955 edition of The Third Pole - a translation of Der Dritte Pol from 1952 mentions the name the "Saddle Rib". When I googled for such images. There were images of bicycle seats with a rib underneath. These ribs are in many cases reminiscent of the profile of the Geneva Spur, as seen by ascending climbers. Are there any references that clarify if the rib mentioned, is [the shape of- or] a bicycle seat's rib? Perhaps this is made clear in the original version of the book, which was written in German. 89.8.17.195 (talk) 22:07, 30 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

I think that may be outdated;people seem to know it as a spur not a rib now, although I can see why they called it that. Maybe its a German language thing? Fotaun (talk) 15:58, 12 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
