Too many images

Too many images, please be extremely selective & prune them. Each image should add encyclopedic value. Galleries need to have meaning and context, not random set of images as of now. The article is vulnerable to wholesale deletion of galleries based on the argument Wikipedia is not Commons. AshLin (talk) 07:31, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

Recommended course of action. Go over every image in Commons. Check where it illustrates existing text and of suitable quality and beauty. Add only such images directly in sections, changing existing images if necessary. The gallery, if present, should add encyclopediac value as a theme to a section. Disparate images clubbed together is worse than useless. For example, in structure & design a gallery of four images which emphasis the design and structure would be valuable. But you need to extremely choosy, preferring less images or no images at all to the mediocre stuff mostly found on Commons & placed here in the gallery. AshLin (talk) 07:47, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

The image attributed to 1924 is actually a 1928 image where King Amanullah Khan of Afghanistan was given a ceremonial welcome. He left on a tour of Europe that year, so Bombay was a likely departure point. Getty Images also confirms the 1928 date. The date error is from the Commons copy of the image. The section on the new lighting system is absurdly grandiose. Stripped of its non-encyclopedic puffery, this:

The lighting is based around a new, one-of-a-kind LED system, providing a palette of 16 million colors that can be computer-programmed to create inspiring lighting shows.

would become something like this:

International electronics company Philips unveiled a makeover of the Gateway's lighting on 25th Jan 2014. The new, LED-based system provides a palette of 16 million colors that can be computer-programmed to create light shows.
