USB and the Game Link connector edit

Does anyone know the history of Game Link as it relates to the origins of USB? My understanding is USB 1.0 started in part from intellectual property related to the design of the first Game Link connector found on the original Nintendo Gameboy. 130.126.166.236 19:44, 24 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Origin of ""1394 History And Market" (PDF). p. 7. Retrieved 2009-11-02." citation edit

Where is this PDF from. This is a useless citation without more data. Looking at the slides there is nothing to distinguish if this was created simply be some clueless student who slapped a bunch of "facts" together for a class or if this is some trade presentation by an engineer who was involved in the design. This needs more qualification or it needs removed.

And yes, I found the document appears to have come from this IEEE site: http://www.ieee802.org/ but that still doesn't tell us anything about the claim made in the PDF or who is making the claim. Even the presentations page on that site only lists this info:

  • IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee meeting, July 12-16, 2004, Portland, OR
  • Tuesday, July 13, 2004
  • Tutorial #4: IEEE 1394 and possible areas of cooperation with IEEE 802

But nothing about the author. Even if it did have an author I would like to see more support for this claim than this slide show. BcRIPster (talk) 18:46, 17 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • I see another editor went ahead and removed the citation. I would still like to see some clarification on this one way or another before this simply gets added back in the future. BcRIPster (talk) 20:09, 17 November 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • I sent Michael Teener an e-mail last night asking him to provide any hard evidence such as patent reference, or to elaborate on the cliam. I would like to see what he replies and I can inform everyone here. Also I've seen that dvcentral page before (and other places) that use that language and simply saying something uses a Gameboy like connector does not qualify as being inspired or influenced. That's like saying boats float like ducks so all boats were inspired by ducks. BcRIPster (talk) 16:48, 18 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Firewire edit

Just heard from this video that the Game Link Cable inspired the Firewire cable. There appears to have been a discussion about this back in 2015, but it doesn't look like it went anywhere. 2601:142:8200:AAD8:0:0:0:F441 (talk) 23:52, 18 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

For some reason I apparently never posted a follow-up to my e-mail conversations with the engineers. There is no relation between the two cables. Period. I'll have to see if I can find the conversation now, but as it's personal research it doesn't really help other than to give reason to keep the claim off this page. Multiboot edit

Multiboot was kinda like a beta DS Download Play for the GBs. I know nothing more than it exists. This is the article that should have info on it though.
