I am not researching this individual - however, I was asked to help a person who is. I found this entry interesting in that it gives his place of birth as "Bomen, Austria." The same was listed at: http://www.franzbischoff.com/

I suspect that this is in fact a reference to the Kingdom of Böhmen, or Bohemia, that was part of the Austrian Empire that is traditionally the region around Prague in the Czech Republic. Here is what is noted in two other on-line biographies I found via Google:

http://www.tfaoi.com/distingu/fb.htm

http://www.irvinemuseum.org/artist2.html

Finally, here are the references to the U.S. Census that I found him and his wife Bertha and family in:

BISCHOFF, FRANZ (1900 U.S. Census) MICHIGAN , WAYNE, DEARBORN TWP Age: 35, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: GERM Series: T623 Roll: 754 Page: 42

BISCHOFF, FRANZ (1920 U.S. Census) CALIFORNIA , LOS ANGELES, SOUTH PASADENA Age: 56, Male, Race: WHITE, Born: AUST Series: T625 Roll: 119 Page: 239

Thought I would post this information here in hopes it helps someone.
