pupil of Ippolito Costa edit

It seems unlikely that Borgani was a student of Costa. Costa died in 1561, 26 years before Borgani was born. Mduvekot (talk) 23:50, 3 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Unreliable information edit

The article needs to be rewritten.

  • According to more recent, highly reputable encyclopedias the artist was born in or around 1557. In 1586/7, he worked already as a painter in the castle of Goito. (See the Italian Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani and the German Thieme-Becker.)
  • The above objection by Mduvekot is still true: Even if Borgani was born 30 years earlier (c. 1557 instead of 1587), he still was an infant of c. 4 years when Ippolito Costa died in 1561. So, Costa cannot have been his teacher (at the level intended within the present context).
  • The painting of St. Francis shown and discussed in the article is currently dated "c. 1618" by the museum (Musei d'Italia). So, the previous "postmortal" dating is not an argument against Borgani's authorship anymore.

Not being a native speaker of English, and not very familiar with the English Wikipedia's established practices, I'd rather leave this task to more experienced (EN-)wikipedians. -- Martinus KE (talk) 18:20, 7 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
