Roman Civ Review - Brooke edit

You’ve clearly done a lot of research and formatting, and it has really paid off. The coordinates of the location as well as the pictures really add to an already thorough article. I know you mention the temple’s dedication to Mars, but I don’t think you actually specify that he’s the god of war. You obviously know this already, but it would just help clarify the military significance of the temple. Also, the second paragraph of your Architecture section probably needs a citation. I really liked your concluding sentence and was really satisfied with all the information you provided. However, just for people who aren’t now coming out of Roman Civ class, I would clarify the second to last sentence, “The statues in the forum provided excellent reasoning for Augustus to claim his restoration of the Republic.” Just a mention of why and when Augustus claimed to restore the Republic might be helpful.

Roman Civ Review by Christopher Erlinger edit

By starting your article with the history of the battle that led to the building of the Forum, you effectively establish time period and location without a boring paragraph about general characteristics of the time, and relying on bland "It happened in the year xxxx. It ended in xxxx" sentences. I would consider rearranging the following sentence because it could be made much clearer: "During battle of Philippi in 42 BC, in which Augustus and Mark Antony fought to avenge Augustus' adoptive father’s, Julius Caesar, assassination, Augustus vowed to build a temple honoring Mars the Avenger, if victorious." The fireproof wall section is interesting and not something that would come up right away when researching the forum. Nice job catching that and getting it into the article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cme244 (talkcontribs) 00:19, 14 May 2007 (UTC).Reply

Roman Civilization Review by Savena Gallardo edit

The author did an excellent job describing the Forum of Augustus. It seems the author put a lot of work into researching the topic and providing accurate facts about the site as well. As I was reading the article it helped to be able to look at the pictures the author provided of the forum so I would be able to see firsthand how the Forum looks. I really enjoyed reading the secton on the statuary inside the Forum of Augustus. It helped me as well as future readers get an inside look on who the Romans felt were the most important figures and gods in the time the forum was built. This section shows how the statues inside the forum help preserve Roman culture for future generations. Overall, the article did a great job of giving me a great inside look at the forum and answered the questions, what, where, why, and how accurately. The only suggestion I would make to improving the article would be in the Forum Use section. I feel the author should describe what "booty" is in the sentence, "Arms and booty recovered from battle were often stored in the Forum as well" because some readers might not know exactly what that word means. --S.michelle 22:36, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Temple of Mars Ultor edit

I think the Temple of Mars Ultor deserves a separate article. See the Dutch (nl) and Italian (it) Wikipedia for example. The Dutch article will maybe become better in the future. Solejheyen (talk) 09:39, 29 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well, I see this proposal is nearly a year old now. I agree that the Temple of Mars Ultor would make for an independent article. Cynwolfe (talk) 23:17, 14 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I started to work on the Forum article and plan to work on an article about the Temple of Mars the Avenger.[1] Geraldshields11 (talk) 01:42, 16 February 2014 (UTC)Reply
