Going live
editIf we could find more sources and maybe add another paragraph or two, I'd say it'll be ready for mainspace. If you want me to move it for you without going through all the AfC nonsense I would be glad to (they want to fuss about notability, notability, notability, even when something clearly is notable; I helped with an article about the president of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports that had been turned down for several months straight). Montanabw says Articles for creation is where articles go to die, so I avoid it whenever possible. I just write mine in userspace and then move directly to mainspace. White Arabian Filly Neigh 02:02, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
- Indeed. We can also help you learn to move it yourself, I think you can do so, though you might need 50 edits... you should be there, I think... Montanabw(talk) 03:09, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure you have enough edits by now; I think you have to have 4 days of having an account and 10 edits, and you definitely have that. To move it, you go to the "More" tab on the upper right hand side of the screen and click on it. The "move" tab will drop down. You click on that, and it'll take you to a page with the title and space. For space, select the one that says "Article" and for the title, type "Flim Flam (horse)". Then you just click the green move button and it's done. White Arabian Filly Neigh 16:27, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure I know how to move the article. Just need to find more sources. Horsegeek(talk) 17:30, 28 February 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- Here are a couple that should be reliable:
[1][2][3] White Arabian Filly Neigh 21:57, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
- It will survive AfD if it goes live now, but it won't pass DYK unless there is more content and sourcing. Your call. If you want to do DYK, it has to be nominated within five days of going live, so my recommendation is to have it DYK-ready before you move it. JMO. Montanabw(talk) 21:31, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
I think I might need a few sources for legacy. What things can go into it? Horsegeek(talk) 03:34, 8 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- Probably stuff about whether he was given any awards after he died, or was buried in a special place. I can do some more looking later. White Arabian Filly Neigh 21:32, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- The obit in 2004 says the 2002 silver was the USA's highest ever in dressage at WEG as of then, wonder if that's still true. Also, in this article with Sue Blinks, she says he still inspires her, so that might be useful. I found a few more sources, too. Montanabw(talk) 09:44, 9 March 2016 (UTC):
- http://www.nytimes.com/2000/09/10/nyregion/for-the-record-in-water-and-on-land-women-hope-for-medals.html New York Times... Blinks describes the horse's personality. Good material!
- http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/dressage/farewell-to-former-olympic-horse-59107 More details on his death (sad, but relevant)
- http://www.eurodressage.com/equestrian/2007/06/27/american-owned-roosevelt-qualifies-2007-world-championships-young-dressage-horses-verden THIS IS GOOD: His owner on originally wanting to keep him a stallion, etc.
- http://horsesdaily.com/article/sue-blinks-and-flim-flam-americas-1 (Mentions coming on the scene at 1998 WEG and that the horse had injury issues)
- http://www.janesavoie.com/about-jane-savoie/coach/ Jane Savoie coached them in 2000 at Sydney
- [4] some generic Olympic history (narrow search on this page to just "flim flam" and it is clearer)
- http://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/person.asp?personId=5980401&privcapId=772503] [5] Scuttlebutt (interesting, and mostly good) on Fritz Kundrun. (Almost might deserve his own wiki article...)
- http://www.equiworld.net/uk/ezine/0602/uset07.htm Mentions deep in article that Flim Flam had a colic problem prior to 2002 WEG.
- http://www.usdf.org/education/clinics/jryr/clinicians.asp Bio of Blinks that mentions pre-2000 USA wins.
Enjoy! The first three have lots of good stuff, the others have interesting tidbits. Montanabw(talk) 09:44, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks so much Montanabw! I will for sure use the third reference. Maybe about his owner wanting to keep him a stallion. But right now, kind of busy with life, will do when I'm not. Horsegeek(talk) 22:57, 9 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
Does this reference work? For the fact that she won the medal with Robert, and those other people.Horsegeek(talk) 21:56, 10 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek

- Yeah, that's a good one. It can be put in place of my hidden comment. By the way, I'd move the stuff about his early life to the life and career section, between the part about his parents and the part about his winnings. I'd do it for you, but I can't copy-paste right with my phone; I either have to copy one word or everything on the page, not just what I select like on a computer. Sorry I haven't been around much lately, my female guinea pig died and I've been handraising her babies. White Arabian Filly Neigh 23:31, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
I understand. And I'm sorry about your guinea pig. That's the reason my parents don't let me have a pet. Horsegeek(talk) 00:42, 11 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
I found this site. http://www.law360.com/articles/692604/horse-owners-say-irs-owes-nearly-7-9m-refund Does it go into anything? And do you guys think it's good enough for DYK? Horsegeek(talk) 17:52, 11 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- Haven't looked at the site yet; will later.
- For DYK, the only issue we might have is it might not be long enough. It has to have 1500 chatacters of text, not counting what's in the infobox, table or the references. I'll look at sources again and try to add at least another paragraph. White Arabian Filly Neigh 21:12, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- When it goes live, ping me and I'll help with making sure it qualifies for DYK. Nothing like having an article you created on Wikipedia's front page! The next couple of weeks are going to be busy for me in real life and my wiki-time is going to be a bit limited, but though I can't contribute a lot here, I'll at least keep an eye on things. Montanabw(talk) 01:37, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
- Oh and the Law 360 article duplicates stuff that I think I have in the links above, it's kind of a side thing...more scuttlebutt on the owners than the horse (though the owners look notable enough for their own article, the guy being a very rich business person and both doing a lot of philanthropy). Montanabw(talk) 01:39, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
You guys are right, it has enough info to go to mainspace. But I'll have to put double the info it already has life White Arabian Filly said, 1500 characters of text to get into DYK. I only come on so often to add little bits of info. But I'll try to push in a bit more time. But seriously, I am the slowest article maker, ever. Horsegeek(talk) 23:23, 16 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- Heh, don't feel bad, I have one article that's been in my sandbox since Christmas or the new year and still isn't live. I will help with adding some more, I think it's close to being long enough.
- Add, later: my problem is that I get sidetracked all the time. See the history of the Treeing Walker Coonhound page. 😌 I saw how awful it looked, full of OR and HAD to improve it. (I had one of those dogs when I was a kid, 8 or 9.)
White Arabian Filly Neigh 18:39, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
According to the character count checker I use for my DYK evals, [6], you are well over 2600 characters, so length is OK. I say it's just about prime time for you, dearie! Montanabw(talk) 22:12, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
So you think I should move it? (Right now I'm doing homework, kind of switching back and fourth.) Horsegeek(talk) 22:44, 17 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- Yes, I think it's good enough and long enough now that you can move it and nominate it for DYK. If you need help with the nomination, I can do that part. White Arabian Filly Neigh 15:16, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Move
editOkay, I'm gonna move it. And yes, I might need a bit of help with DYK. I'll try it myself but I'm not exactly sure how? Horsegeek(talk) 19:53, 18 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
Okay, I tried but I'm like, so confused. Might need help... Horsegeek(talk) 20:06, 18 March 2016 (UTC)Horsegeek
- Seems like you got it moved Ok now. For DYK, you just go to the T:TDYK page and scroll down until you see the nomination instructions. Type in the complete article name, with parentheses and everything, and hit the create nom button. It'll take you to a preloaded page where you'll just have to fill out the parameters given (might not need all of them) and then save the page. Because this is your first nom, you don't have to review another one. After you create and save the nom page, go back and scroll down to where it says "DYK nominations March 18" and add yours using the template given. They consider them "created" the day the article is put in mainspace. White Arabian Filly Neigh 20:32, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
- Umm, where it says to add on the nomination page, it means the T:TDYK page. White Arabian Filly Neigh 21:53, 18 March 2016 (UTC)
- Never mind, I did it. White Arabian Filly Neigh 00:25, 19 March 2016 (UTC)
