Should the Firefox 4, and x versions not also be deleted and merged into the main article? Theres no real reason to have an article for every revision.

Actually, there is. You see, articles like Firefox 4 can grow and even become featured one day. However, Mozilla decided to release Firefox updates more often, so articles like FF 5, 6, 7 can't really grow.
