Pronunciation is wrong edit

Hi. I must point out that the IPA representation of the name is very wrong. I don't have the time to make the edit myself right now, and I didn't want to simply delete it and leave anyone thinking that it was simply a case of vandalism.

It's the vowels. It's pronounced with all short vowels (as we know them in conventional English terms). Whoever put that pronunciation in either is extremely lazy, is unfamiliar with the IPA, or hasn't read what Tolkien had to say about the pronunciation of Elvish words and names.

I'm deleting what's there as it is blatantly wrong (see the appendices to The Lord of the Rings). Someone who knows what they are doing should feel free to add correct pronunciation help.2601:C1:403:5C00:142A:EDA7:21F3:B4BB (talk) 06:11, 27 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Finrod Felagund is Sindarin. So the vowels are all supposed to be short here, while long vowels dominate in Quenya. In appendix E there is a paragraph that explains how short and long vowels in Sindarin have actually more a less the same weight in pronunciation, and the pronunciation of Felagund is even attested in Helmut Pesch's dictionary (ISBN 3-404-20476-X). Note also Fauskanger who writes that "long vowels are marked with an accent (á, é etc.)", but contrary to e. g. Círdan, there are no such accents in Finrod's Sindarin name. In summary, there was nothing wrong with the IPA. De728631 (talk) 19:49, 27 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Not notable edit

I think we've given this article our best shot, and even found a few passing mentions by some Tolkien scholars. That can't conceal the fact that time has largely passed this character by. We have here an article that's nearly all old-style primary in-universe narrative, with a tiny amount of analysis, and not for want of looking either. I'm afraid the only thing for it is a redirect to where the character is discussed at Noldor, so I shall redirect this now. Chiswick Chap (talk) 16:58, 12 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
